Ich nutze dieses laptop selten, und oft nur remote, daher weiß ich gar nicht mit welchem update  sich X verabschiedet hat. Und im gegensatz zu meiner WS mit nvidia GRAKA bin ich bei ATI/AMD nie durchgestiegen. Jetz habe ich (nach welchem d-u auch immer) kein X mehr.

So auf gut Glück geraten:

1. Nimm einen älteren Kernel
2. Wenn 1. funzt, frage Towo, ob er die neuesten linux-stable-queue radeon patches in linux-3.5 einbaut ...

leider kein funktionierender kernel  mehr da, ältester ist "...3.4-1..."

ja, klar ist der laut X-log fehlerfrei gestartet. Warum aber sehe ich keinen cursor starten, keine anmeldung, keinen HG, sondern nur die konsole mit

und danach nichts mehr, kein fehlr, kein X start, kein promt. Letzterer erscheint erst wieder wenn ich nochmals die eingabetaste drücke.

Ich versteh jedoch diene bemerkung so, dass der treiber wohl paßt, aber was an anderer stelle klemmt. Was könnte das sein?

Mal abgesehen davon, daß 3.4-1 alles andere, als aktuell ist, verrätst Du leider nicht, welchen Flavour Du verwendest. Auch ein Blick in /var/log/messages könnte helfen.
Was passiert denn, wenn Du Alt+F7 drückst?

Towo, ich verwende *nicht*  3.4-1, das ist nur der älteste verfügbare kernel. Mein system ist, wie im eingansposting  geschrieben auf dem neuesten stand mit deinem *danke, danke, danke* neusten kernel. Das ist bei mir immer und überall auf allen rechnern so, ich frag hier nicht mit verschimmelndem system, als wenigstens so schlau könnte ich mittlerweile bekannt sein, aber ok, gibt viele user hier.

ALT+F7 passiert gar nichts.

... und kaum fragt jemand in die richtige richtung, schon löst man das problem wie von selbst.

kdm war nicht (mehr) installiert :oops: . Wie der verschwinden konnte ist mir ein rätsel. Andererseits habe ich mein läptop nun monatelang nur remote genutzt und gewartet, ohne bildschirm. Ist da mal bei eine update kdm entfernt worden? naja, eigentlich passe ich auf, was entfernt wird ... (räusper) ... war ich wohl temporär unaufmerksam.

Es ist natürlich klar, dass die nicht mehr gepflegt werden, das wäre zuviel verlangt. Wenn Du aber auf http://packages.siduction.org schaust, wirst Du im Zweifel immer eine älteren Kernel finden. Vor Regressions ist man ja nie ganz geschützt.

OT: Meine Güte, wie habe ich diesen Zwang zu aktuellen Kerneln bei Aptosid gehasst, das ist aber lange her. :twisted:

Linux-3.2 wird vom Debianer Hutchings langzeit gepflegt und ist aktuell für das nächste Release gewählt! Hutchings ist echt ein Gewinn auf Kernel.org für die Pflege, er hat durch seine Aufmerksamkeit auch schon für andere Kernelreihen Fehler verhindert...
