Chromium crashing extensions [SOLVED]
« on: 2019/08/01, 14:59:41 »
The new update of Chromium (76.0.3809.87-1) crashes extensions on start up: https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=933598

The only work around suggested so far is to downgrade: if you have the testing repositories enabled, you can simply

Code: [Select]
apt remove chromium chromium-common
apt install chromium=76.0.3809.71-1 chromium-common=76.0.3809.71-1

Sorry to say, but the only workaround that makes sense in this case in my book is using Chrome.

I either give too many fucks or no fucks at all, it's like I cannot find a middle ground for a moderate fuck distribution, it's like what the fuck

For my job I need hundreds of open tabs. I need them secured and I need them to be restored reliably through restarts of the browser and reboots of the machine. Firefox does not play ball here reliably.

Guess it always depends on what you need.
I love my little paranoia setup:
Firefox - for my standard websites (only handpicked cookies allowed / everything else blocked)
Chromium - for finding new stuff (everything deleted and reset at exiting the browser)

Falkon - play around and find out if I can get rid of chromium
Linux is highly user friendly, it is just highly selective who it is friends with.

It seems that the new version (76.0.3809.87-2) fixes the problem.  (At least no crashes for me so far.)  I will mark it solved.

@devil: I will second piper.  Firefox has been running really well!  (Although I do use Debian's package.)  If you haven't given it a try in a while, it might be worth a try now...
