[EN] Interesting change of the December wallpaper
« on: 2014/07/13, 02:01:54 »
I wonder what's in store?

A week ago I had to install the Nvidia 340 driver because of nouveau errors with Iceweasel, so, I thought, the new wallpaper was a graphics problem.  Then tonight I upgrade another machine and see the theme/wallpaper has changed.  If intended, it brings mystery to our distro.  I'm on the edge of my seat wondering what's coming next.  :-)

should not be - but it might be inkscape magic - i removed a long standing packaging bug (artwork depend on kdm) - but that should not change any wallpaper - but thats the theory.

I will have a look into it later.

My wallpaper changed as well. It now shows a wide black stripe on both sides, as well as 13.2.rc1 displayed diagonally in the upper right corner of the screen. I removed the unrelated packages, this is what upgraded here.

siduction-art-kdm-december:amd64 (2014.01.26.1, 2014.07.11)

so it is deep inkscape magic - the rc parts are normally behind the background - will have a look later

hmm - sometimes i really hate inkscape

Seems all images in /usr/share/wallpapers/december/contents/images/ were recreated 11th of july with that black rc-bar. Before DU those jpgs dated from january 26.

The reason was: Until now inkscape miss one attribute which now is fully implemented and working - that means: Old drawing render now correct - that means, they appear wrong :)

[2014/07/15 00:57] <su_v> trunk macht's nun richtig
[2014/07/15 00:57] <agaida> schick
[2014/07/15 00:58] <su_v> so dass ein nicht-proportional skaliertes bild in allen SVG renderern gleich (und korrekt) aussieht
Sorry for the german, but that means: one who use scaled bitmaps in the past should touch them and add the missing attribute :) - so will i ...

The artwork should be fixed now - the XML Editor in inkscape is really cool - if one know, which parameter to add. In our case it was 'preserveAspectRatio none' for the images.

Fixed and uploaded.

not for that - working out this issue lead to 2 bugreports and fixes - the missing property must be set unfortunally by hand in older drawings - but two sideeffects of this issue are now fixed :) - that is a good example, how free and open source can and should work.

Downside: If we running on the latest development, we get all fresh bugs and regressions - but we also get fixes very fast in the most cases.
