Author Topic:   SOLVED - Plasma Hangs After Login for a Couple of Minutes  (Read 5952 times)

I'm having an issue that I can't find an answer on.  After I log into my computer it will hang for a couple of minutes before continuing.  Yes, I've googled extensively, all of the links concerned bugs that either didn't apply, or have been fixed, and I have tried multiple solutions including deleting .Xauthority and logging back in without rebooting.

Observations which may or may not be relevant:

-The problems seemed to start after I tried installing some wayland packages because I have multiple video cards and I wanted to see if I could put them to good use.  I've since uninstalled all the wayland related packages I could without completely nuking the system.
- I have noticed that the audio clicks right after the hang ends, indicated that the audio driver has successfully loaded.
-The Mimetype error messages are related to my icon theme.  I have tried changing the theme which made no difference.
- I had no luck finding useful information on kscreen event error 147.
- Other than this annoying 2 min hang after login, the system seems to be working perfectly.- I'm leaning towards this being an issue with multiple gpu's.

This is my basic hardware information from Sandra when I had Windows installed:

did you read that thread?
https://forum.siduction.org/index.php?topic=7508.0

maybe there are two answers that could solve that problem.

So perhaps the answer is that this is a known bug and just wait for an update?  If I know that this is a known bug, and not because of something I screwed up, I won't have a problem waiting for a fix.  It's annoying, but it isn't a show stopper.

Does no one read upgrade warnings? There is even 2 ways to fix this.

as written in the bugreport you can do this

Quote
For a (temporary) workaround you can create a file
/etc/security/limits.d/systemd.conf containing:

* hard nofile 524288
Gruss Juergen

Thanks so much, that fixed it.  When you are a noob, there aren't enough hours in the day to read everything everyone expects you to read, and you have no idea what's important and what isn't.  I have a few ideas, but finding this kind of information on google is a nightmare.

I should also say, I'm not using Siduction.  I just had it from a reliable source that the people here know their stuff.  I am running vanilla Debian Sid.  So I didn't get the warnings your update scripts would have provided.  I may eventually go that route.  But I do, very much appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post and help me out, and I swear, I didn't post here until I spent days, literally, banging my head against the wall trying to find an answer.
Noobs often don't know what questions to ask, or where to ask the questions, so if I shouldn't have posted here, I apologize.
