Before i forget - in my case mainly $foo-dev packages seems to be removed - but it would remove also build-essentials. And without build-essentials no kernel-modules for prop. graphic drivers. You have be warned ...

I just upgraded an hour ago and all went fine.  I just tried again, and, there's nothing to do.  Maybe the US mirrors haven't synced yet, or, the alien is running into "Murphy's Law".  Heh.  :)

This morning, the removals were limited to the installed linux-headers packages, including linux-headers-siduction-amd64.  I let all the headers go, then reinstalled linux-headers-siduction-amd64, which pulled in the current headers package, and all is good.

On the nvidia driver package update, I did not see the expected warning to reboot or else rmmod nvidia before restarting X.  I did the usual procedure to rmmod the nvidia module first, and the GUI came up with no errors.

if some packages still conflicting - let them go and reinstall them as really needed :)

Not a good idea to recommend that to other users IMO. You can let the headers go, but it probably won't fix the issue, (You should be able to get them installed again, but no guarantee...)

After looking into it further, it looks like another multiarch issue (a bit different than the one in OP) since gcc-4.9 got update to 4.9.0-11, but the corresponding i386 build failed: https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=gcc-4.9&suite=unstable (https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=gcc-4.9&suite=unstable)

hm - would this suggestion be ok: if you really need skype or other prop. programms - avoid amd64 and make a i386 installation without multiarch! 8)

Would solve nearly all multiarch related problems :)

In fact that's what I did when I last installed this machine, after a question on this forum somebody told me that for a normal user it's ok to have a 32 bit installation, that I will not notice any difference.

As of this morning I am still seeing this on one of my 64-bit multiarch systems:

Code: [Select]
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  linux-headers-3.15-5.towo-siduction-amd64 linux-headers-siduction-amd64
The following packages have been kept back:

  libpcrecpp0 libquadmath0 libstdc++-4.9-dev libstdc++6 libtsan0 libubsan0
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 21 not upgraded.

But two other 64-bit systems, one of which is multiarch, do not have this situation.  Is it normal, or do I need to do troubleshooting?

siduction-settings-gnome depends on libglib2.0-dev which is being removed.

The solution is simply to wait for gcc team to fix the i386 build (not to hack around and "let packages go"). I know that's tough for a lot of sid users, but the system will not explode if it's not dist-upgrade'd on a daily basis.

hopefully fixed gcc - build is ok, but the tests are fucking slow (approx 2-3 h on a decent machine). will see if it work tomorrow and prepare a patch for debian.

And i will have a look at the settings package - imho it should not depend on a dev package on runtime.

it will not change and this will last for one week or so - and i'm not longer willing to fix the debian compiler crap - just wait and eventually Mr. Klose make his homeworks and solve the mess he introduced. Not my business anymore.

Is your laptop running 64-bit siduction with multiarch (32-bit packages) enabled? If not, then it's not strange that the laptop doesn't have the issue.

I thought that too, when I first noticed but I enabled multi-arch because I needed it to install the VMWare view client on my laptop.  If I cat /var/lib/dpkg/arch I have amd64 and i386, listed on both the desktop and laptop.  Weird right ... meuh I'm just going to hold off for now.

So gcc 4.9.1 was fixed and has propagated through my mirror, but still, issues remained. It looks like the latest problem is mismatching versions of libpcre3 and libpcre:i386
https://buildd.debian.org/status/package.php?p=pcre3&suite=unstable

The libpcre3:i386 package is needed for 32-bit wine, so that may explain why only certain multiarch users are seeing the issue(s).

Should I file a bug, or would a maintainer automatically know about a build error through automatic notification?

Laptop still has an issue with the siduction-settings-gnome-december package

That's caused by the gcc bug I linked to. It should resolve itself very soon depending on what mirror you're using (I use U.S. mirror and it cleared up for me).

siduction-settings-gnome depends on libglib2.0-dev which is being removed.
