Title: Keine virtuellen Konsolen mehr?
Post by: ReinerS on 2019/06/13, 20:01:17
Hmm, habe ich was verpasst?

Reiner

ein recht aktuelles siduction

Was immer das sein soll. Aktuell oder nicht, dazwischen gibt es nichts. Ergo erstmal d-u.

Will sagen, ReinerS, nachdenken und selbst gezielt vorgehen.

@axt:
Könnte also 2-3 Wochen so sein.

Spitzenleistung.

@ReinerS,

leider nichts Konstruktives:
Code: [Select]
inxi -b, um eventuell »Leidensgenossen« zu finden.
Und Down/Upgrade der systemd-Packages bzw. des Kernels.
Keine unmittelbar verwertbaren Treffer per Suche nach
»linux tty not accessible«

Vielleicht bringts beim Lappy was.

@Reiner, make sure "F-lock" is set in BIOS, and on keyboard.
Title: Re: Keine virtuellen Konsolen mehr?
Post by: ReinerS on 2019/06/22, 22:46:50
@dibl: You are most probably right. Problem is only that I can neither find F-Lock/Function Key on the Keyboard nor within the BIOS to toggle- Other Models have such an key but mine (HP-8470p) doesn't seem to.
The problem stays also when booting a live DVD Image, so it is somewhere hidden in BIOS. Resetting BIOS to Standard also didnot solve that.
The Fn Keys themselfes are acting "normal" but when using the combinations with Alt+Strg+Fnx or Alt+Fnx, the only working combination is Alt+Strg+Fn7 resp. Alt#Fn7. All others lead to freezing the screen until I "return" to Alt+F7.
Searching through some solutions for other HP-Notebooks (on some there was mentioned "Action keys, but that I also didnot have within the BIOS-Setup) did not help yet, but still searching and examinating. :-)

regards
Reiner

Not all HP models have Fn option (mostly older)

If yours does

In short – Turn off and then turn on your computer > Press Esc to get to Set-up Menu > BIOS Set-up > System Configurations > Action Keys Mode > Disable

@piper: Thank you, but I already tried that with both Setups (Administrator and User).
This Opetion could not be found. BIOS is the latest for this model.

You can also switch your virtual consoles with command:
Code: [Select]
chvt 1(as root)

Post by: ReinerS on 2019/06/23, 19:03:51
@Sir_Aim: Thank you for the hint, didn't know that until now. Just tried it but it has exactly the same effect as trying with the Alt+Strg+Fnx combinations. The Screen seems to freeze, Mouse-cursor dissapears and with Alt+Fn7 I am back on the real X-Window again.

Do you use the modeseting-ddx or the intel-ddx?
If you use the modesetting ddx, try to start X with the intel-ddx ore vice versa.

@towo: Good question. If I see it right I use neither one of those.
At least nothing in grub yet. And have not played with those yet.
I will search for infos on that.

mkdir -p /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d ; echo -e 'Section "Device"\n\tIdentifier "My GPU"\n\tDriver "intel"\nEndSection' > /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
Given, that xserver-xorg-video-intel is installed, a restart X should use the intel-ddx.

@towo: That worked partially, but now I get a complete black screen instead of the frozen ones.

Well, as I mentioned below that just happened (when I realized it) maybe since 2-3 weeks ago. Before that it worked ok. And it also is the case with the siduction live-dvd. So I assumed that dibl was somehow on the right track on that. I didnot suspect a driver-problem at all.

@towo: I guess I found/located the problem. Seems related to some silly hardware configuration/combination problem.

I have the laptop attached to an HP-Dockingstation and had an additional Monitor connected via VGA to it which I switch on when needed. Worked always like a charm when needed with all resolutions I used.
So some weeks ago I got an bigger Monitor connected via DVI and was/am working since wih that when needed instead. No problems at all found until lately when I once again tried to use the virtual consoles.
Hadn't the slightest idea that it could have been related to that. :(

I found out/realized it when I tried to get lightdm working. It switched the screen completely black then, while sddm had frozen the screen. So during experimenting I disconnected the laptop from the docking station and the problem was gone. Reconnected the laptop to the docking station and disconnected that Monitor (the problem was even there when the Monitor was switched off) and the problem stayed gone.Reconnected the Monitor and Problem reappeared.

So knowing the cause yet I can avoid the problem. I might experiment with an cable with HDMI-Connector to see what effects this has.

So, sorry for the exitment and thanks to all trying to help me on that.
Regards
Reiner

... So, sorry for the exitment  ...
At least this thread might be helpful for everone with a similar problem, and as reference that it's not always about the usual suspects like graphic cards driver, kernel or login manager. So in the future supporters might ask 'any recent hardware changes? Laptop? How connected, docking station in use?'
BTW can inxi show information about the monitor connected and does it see if a laptop is docked?
Title: Re: Keine virtuellen Konsolen mehr?
Post by: ReinerS on 2019/06/25, 17:04:34
@der_bud: inxi seems not to show any monitor infos other than the actual resolution.
With an second monitor active there is a second resolution listed:
Code: [Select]
Graphics:  Device-1: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics vendor: Hewlett-Packard driver: i915 v: kernel bus ID: 00:02.0
           chip ID: 8086:0166
           Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: intel resolution: 1366x768~60Hz, 1680x1050~60Hz
OpenGL: renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Ivybridge Mobile v: 4.2 Mesa 18.3.6 compat-v: 3.0 direct render: Yes

Infos about Dockingstation I have found none within inxi yet.
