[EN] Siduction iso cp Install on a SD Card.
« on: 2018/10/30, 20:14:38 »
Hi all,

I wanted to give a try to Siduction, installing it in a SD Card to be used in its corresponding SD slot of my laptop.

Code to boot the image seems to look for the kernel only on connected USB or HD disks mounted but not SD on Cards.,

Is there any workaround to boot siduction this way?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The SD interface device (the hardware) has to be recognizable in BIOS as a bootable device.  In my experience, most are not.   :'(

If you have a SD to USB adapter, you can probably get it to boot that way, but it will be limited to USB interface speed, at most.

On Think Pad boot from the SD slot does not work neither.

You can check if the laptop supports booting from the SD card:

- In the grub menu press "c" and
- then display all drives with "ls" in the Grub terminal

If the inserted SD card is displayed, it should be possible to boot from there.
If this is supported by siduction, I don't know...

UEFI should be a game changer here - but we do not know anything about the hardware

Thanks for the hints.

This is what I did:

1. Changed BIOS boot (legacy / UEFI)
2. Changed boot priority order (SD reader detected and supported)
3. Tested legacy.
4. Boot and I got grub siduction menu.
5. Choosed option to boot from USB.
6. Start booting and keeps trying to find siductioin on /dev/sda  /deb/sdb..... continously but not in  /dev/xxx associated to my SR reader

Seems code only look in hard disks and connected usbs.

I use kanotix regularly.  Boot from SD reader works fine.

BTW:  My hardware is a Dell Inc. Latitude E7240/05PTPV, BIOS A08 02/18/2014

Code: [Select]

Host/Kernel/OS  "KANOTIX" running Linux 4.19.0-3-generic x86_64 [ Kanotix Spitfire 20150623-06:34 ]

Solution: Let it start from a hard disk - i see you have enough of them.

Thanks melmarker.

I installed a siduction image on my HD and with some Kanotix grub chages I could load it from there.

Testing now... siduction... looks good

Thanks all for your help 8)

hmm - that was not what i initially suggested - my thought was: on a mbr system - just let grub start from one of the HDs and load the system from sdcard - but hey, put it on HD at all is a solution too :D
