Title: "Bug" in the manual
Post by: jjjrrr3 on 2014/02/16, 18:14:02
I don't know if there's a better place to put this.

The section about "writing an siduction ISO ... with ... MS Windows™" (http://manual.siduction.org/hd-ins-opts-oos#raw-m) (http://manual.siduction.org/hd-ins-opts-oos#raw-ms) relies on flashnul, but that software seems not to be available anymore.

There is a dl on this page: http://www.speaktothegeek.co.uk/oliblog/2012/08/18/raspberry-pi-reformat-your-sd-card/ (http://www.speaktothegeek.co.uk/oliblog/2012/08/18/raspberry-pi-reformat-your-sd-card/)
I will change the link in the manual, thanks for reporting.

edit: at closer look, this is very ols, maybe I can find something that does not smell funny.

Windows offers a tool: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool (http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool)

It has to be installed, it isn't stand-alone or portable. It reads as if it only works with a Win7 .iso, but the MS fans seem to believe that it will work with any .iso to create a bootable usb drive.

Edit - My apologies, I tried it, I'm guessing it will only work with a Win7 .iso.

The Arch-Wiki (https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/USB_Flash_Installation_Media#In_Windows_3) suggests for such purposes the portable tool  USBWriter  (http://sourceforge.net/p/usbwriter/wiki/Documentation/).

Code: [Select]
Description:
USBWriter is tiny Windows tool that lets you write an image file directly to an USB drive.
It requires no installation and depends on no bloated framework, it's just a little program
that you may put on your desktop.

Fixed with ticket  #1502 (http://chili.siduction.org/issues/1502). Thanks again for pointing it out.
