Title: Live CD problem on Lenovo IdeaPad s340
Post by: bad_aptitude on 2020/01/11, 02:00:54

I wrote the "patience"  KDE iso onto a usb. (md5 check was OK)
The Siduction Grub Screen loads from the usb iso OK but choosing from the menu to load from either  CD/DVD/iso or hd menu items results in a blank screen.
This laptop has a 10th generation i7 processor.
Would a more recent iso possibly solve the problem or is anyone aware of other solutions?

Thanks

A black screen is really nothing special or new. You use boot options, e.g. xforcevesa and/or nomodeset (these are makeshifts, to be able to start X first and then solve the problem properly).

But you could also install noX (https://isobuilds.siduction.org/nox/) and xorg and the desired DE afterwards.

Lenovo IdeaPad s340 have different equipment. There is no discrete GPU (Nvidia GeForce MX230) built in? It all goes through the Intel IGP?

As axt had suggested, I tried booting from <<siduction-18.3.0-patience-nox-amd64-201805132159.iso>>  but I still just get as far as the siduction branded boot menu. When I choose from the menu to boot either from the cd/dvd/iso or stick/hd I just get a blank window.
My laptop has an i7-1065G7 processor and intel iris plus graphics. I've tried turning off any security features and core hyperthreading in the bios, to no avail.
I'm still wondering if an iso with a more recent kernel might be the answer.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Try that.

Using the latest iso worked!     Many thanks towo.

I now have a different issue which I should probably start in a new thread.

Thanks again
