My old Thinkpad T420 has some problems, so a bought a maybe a little newer T430 for the same price as the parts would have cost to repair the T420.
I 've done this many times but anyway I want to ask the question, what's best to do, just move the hard-disk or do a new installation? Normally it just works to move the hard-disk and do a d-u but maybe there are some benefits doing a new installation?

On the hard-disk is (of cause a fully updated) siduction 18.1.0 Patience - xfce - (201712310104)
I know that I have don a little of that and that, used some weird repos and so on, a new installation would probably be cleaner.

Yes!
Free your system from cruft, which you collected over the times!
https://isobuilds.siduction.org/xfce/  -> actual,  not tested but should work.
And maybe organize a ssd.hard-disk, if you don't have one.

Yes thanks, I will probably do that.

I can confirm that going for a clean install is your best bet, a port of your already installed OS will be unwieldy, you'll have to manually correct a lot of errors there and there...

Is there an automatic way to fix the errors?

I would make a copy of your home folder on usb drive so you can copy back any  self created config files after a clean install
