[EN] Freeze
« on: 2015/10/11, 18:52:53 »
Hi all,

today, after the big d-u, I experienced a freeze on my box, which I experienced already before the d-u on my box.
The freeze shows up as follows:

Suddenly, the buttons in the panel below cannot be accessed/clicked. The mouse is movebal and Alt+Tab provides selection of the windows/apps open and I can switch to and continue working in the selected app/window.
However the buttons below stay freezed. At the end just a reboot helps.

Does someone else experience such a behaviour or has a hint how to get rid off?  Thanks in advance!

Had it before (twice in the last 3 weeks, never before that). No clue at all why and how to end it, sorry.

Thanks, I hope this grows out. I will observe what I did before, should it happen again and report.

Also here a couple of freezes in the past two weeks.

Today did a massive apt-get upgrade (no dist-upgrade) to put fresh packets (including latest systemd) and check if this works out.

Still KDE4 on board and quite a lot packages blocked by not updating to KDE5.

Sooner or later, your gonna have to do a du.

Doing "upgrade" instead of "dist-upgrade" is going to haunt and hurt you and you are probably so far behind in packages that don't exist anymore or that have been given new names that you won't even know where to begin. Then again, that takes the fun out of it

Code: [Select]
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded.

Yes, I know that sooner or later I will have to du.

But this is a production box, not one for experiments. I came to siduction down the way back from kanotix in order to use the latest cutting-edge software on my desktop, not to have fun fiddling with my machine.

Today I way more than halved the number of packages pending, but of course I'm not going to wreak havoc manually (then I would be stupid). When I think KDE5 is enough stable and functional for my production needs, I'll du and shift.

And, btw, GCC hell has not ended yet too, so also waiting for that to settle down.

Anyway, reverting back to main thread topic, no more freezes since today's partial upgrade.

Here actually there would be problems:

- using digikam
- using radiotray
- using different desktops with different wallpapers
- using gwenview to crop and resize pictures

...and these are some bugs I currently know about.
Not considering the ones I don't know.

No problems here with Digikam and Gwenview.
