Thanks to both but I ended up getting myself into a little more trouble and ended up just re-installing.

You could also install pavucotrol and use that.

We'll need to know about your DE and audio hardware.  Install inxi if you don't already have it, then run

Code: [Select]
inxi -AS and post the output here.

Also, in a user terminal, run

Code: [Select]
aplay -l and post the output in your reply.

Software Support (EN) / Missing Volume Control
« Last post by cliff6056 on Today at 04:00:53 »
Somehow I have managed to lose the ability to control volume.  The icon in the tray has disappeared as well as the keyboard keys do nothing.  This seemingly happened without my doing anything intentional.

I did a full upgrade this morning, 10 hours ago, and following this seemed to be working fine.  I watched a Netflix show and pretty sure I turned the volume up.  This evening I attempted to fire up Netflix again, but now no volume control

I did do an autoremove after the upgrade, but believe things were fine after.  I have purged pulseaudio and reinstalled, and tried a few other things that I found, but nothing works.  I am sure this is probably a simple thing that I caused and am overlooking the solution.

Thanks in advance.

Upgrade Warnings (DE / EN) / Re: Kernel Panic with new kernels?

It was the rt18812au dkms that was causing the panic. There's a new release that takes care of timers at https://github.com/abperiasamy/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux

Could I see

Code: [Select]
amixer -c 0 | grep mixer

amixer -c 1 | grep mixer

May want to do a search with these in the search title, it may help to pinpoint your problem, you may alos find some useful scripts to help (or not)

Code: [Select]
amixer -D pulse set Master unmute
amixer -D pulse set Master 1+ unmute
amixer -D pulse set Master Playback Switch toggle

I used to have this, even with 'flat volumes = no' But that last happened ~ 18 months ago and it stopped by itself. Sorry, I know that does not help.

I don't know what exactly triggers this, but most people including me (on 3 machines) are not affected by this.
