Title: Razor-Qt & PCmanFM
Post by: sqlpython on 2012/06/12, 04:48:50
In a word it installs..Runs.. and Crashes when Umounting another Partition.
.... However Thunar which takes a load of 17mb to install due to some Xfce dependancies Does work flawlessly..
... So if you don't want to Use Razor's filemanager QTfm use Thunar..
& why wouldn't you use QTfm...?
Well on the OS file system it works quite well, I liked it... BUT>....
.........Simply, it doesn't have a Direct method that I can find for mounting another partition or Network.. WIth QTfm you must open a Terminal CLI and
mount /dev/sda5 /media/disk1part5
...and then it S-L-O-W-L-Y populates the QTfm interface with the files folders..
...How Slow? I shaved twice waiting for the mounting of a partition.. ..
Once the mounted partition populated the QTfm's window then every thing proceedly quickly.
..Just a trade off and Thunar is better At The Moment...
I am confident that the QTfm will gain ground.

In closing, small minus in an otherwise Stellar light GUI install..

PCmanFM is outdated, the new developed fork by an aptosid user is spacefm ...

QTfm did not proof to be very usable. Instead the next release will probably ship bcm (Beesoft Commander) which is in our razorqt repo. Anotherone to watch is Andromeda, which still needs some time to ripe.

bcm is also not really breathing. But similar:
double-cmd
This I hadn't tried yet. It has the ability to run scripts of msWin Totalcmd.

It makes not many sense to point at gtk-apps for the razor release.
On the iso should be qt-apps as possible.

On the download-page of DoubleCommander http://doublecmd.sourceforge.net/site/eng/download.html there are so called "portable packages" named

 doublecmd-0.5.4.gtk2.(arch).tar.xz and
 doublecmd-0.5.4.qt.(arch).tar.xz

I suppose the latter one refers to a QT-based version available (didn't test it, though).
The screenshot-page (http://sourceforge.net/apps/gallery/doublecmd/) from DoubleComander shows an " Album: Double Commander Linux Qt 4 "

I did also install and test PCmanFM... Once it mounted another partition OK BUT>....
If a user were to clickon the small arrow next to the mounted partition in the SideBar..BANG!! PCmanFM crashes and disappears..try it..LIVECD installed PCmanFM

Why should i want pcmanfm in a QT desktop environment?

@sqlpython

This is a rather reasonable behaviour of pcmanfm, as you klick on that arrow while the partition is mounted and its content shown on the right side - and by clicking you unmount it, so if that is the only tab shown, pcmanfm will also close it and that means it will be shut down.

But one can discuss if this a feature or a bug... ;)

Don't know, you pose the question...
I wouldn't...
My reference is to your statement below..

When I see the above, I believe that possibly any information the devs (you) have regarding pcmanfm/spacefm on the Razor-Qt install may be of some use..
Perhaps, you are not looking for feedback.

@coruja
 THanks for that info.......
I am not very familar with PCmanFm so that is a help to me..

That is what used to be said of MSoft "It's not a Bug. It's a Feature"

Hello,

and if you avoid the KDE because of plasma, but use digikam or okular under razorqt, then I would suggest to use dolphin.

Kind regards,
