Title: Achtung / Attention: Qt 5.9.2 is entering sid
Post by: devil on 2017/10/26, 18:36:08
Qt 5.9.2 is entering sid from experimental from today on. Expect heavy winds and rainfall. Best wait until all packages are in.

Qt 5.9.2 zieht ab heute aus experimental nach sid ein. Es werden heftige Winde und Starkregen erwartet. Besser vorüberziehen lassen und Füsse still halten.

Qt 5.9.2-3

Der Übergang ist vorbei. Auf meiner Maschine lief d-u ohne Probleme.

I do a d-u now also, using XFCE no more removed packages for now.

Maybe it's worse if you are using KDE, moor Qt?

@samoht: Please - if you think that the transition is over for you - fine. But the transition isn't over for many other people. So have a look at the transition tracker. Right now the transition isn't over for pythonqt - if you don't use packages depending on it - lucky you.

My unstable LXQt upgraded today without removals.

My install with the experimental LXQt still had four to remove:  libfm-qt3 libimage-qt lxqt-qtplugin pcmanfm-qt

So I guess we'll wait another day.

apt-transport-https still to be removed...

Synaptic says It is no longer required and now incorporated into apt.

"apt-transport-https still to be removed..." & "Synaptic says It is no longer required and now incorporated into apt."

Maybe this is the reason for the problems of smxi, which does not work anymore (wget <--> https). Please do not talk about smxi, I will continue to use the script (I like it).

My computer works very well after the d-u. (only some minutes ago)

My last d-u was at 2017-10-12  16:35:50

The only thing is that after the upgrade and later after the d-u, too,  dolphin/konqueror doesn't list the samba shares of the local Network. But "smb://compuername" does work.

Please excuse my bad english.

d-u just worked fine here on a newly installed Patience 17.1.0, over 1,000 packages updated with 7 removed.
Code: [Select]
Remove: libgles1-mesa:amd64 (13.0.5-1), ijsgutenprint:amd64 (5.2.11-1+b1), libkwinglutils9:amd64 (4:5.8.5-2), libkwinxrenderutils9:amd64 (4:5.8.5-2), apt-transport-https:amd64 (1.4~rc2), foomatic-db-gutenprint:amd64 (5.2.11-1), libkwineffects9:amd64 (4:5.8.5-2)Only issue I had was wifi wasn't working after reboot and ifdown/ifup didn't restore (network config by /etc/network/interfaces). It's a pesky Realtek USB device without a driver in the kernel and needs rtl8192eu from github built by dkms. It worked after simply unplugging and replugging it!  ???

The du ran fine on my newly installed laptop, everything is ok.

I'm just wondering why I was asked during the update where to install grub.

Because this is standard and happens with every install. You could decide to install it on a different partition than /dev/sda or not at all.

@devil, thanks for this heads-up, I just don't think the intention of such a notification is well understood by the community as being a warning and not require feedback. As the importance of the original is being drown out with things like "works for me" or "had no problems" with my last D-U and they keep getting longer. Maybe a little note on the end that states no comments necessary would help keep the importance where it needs to be and not drowned out by people like me, just my two cents worth.

LOL I'm sure others, like me, are always eager to hear the experiences of @tommy2.   ;D

The qtbase transition is 97% complete as of today, so perhaps we should not lock the thread until it is truly finished. It can happen that a user report about a transition problem will help other users avoid the same problem.

But I understand your point, and these "Update Warnings" threads should be locked when the issue becomes history.

@dibl, left myself wide open on that one,  ;D as it came across different than I had planned.  What I was trying to say was "all the it works for me" comments can give some less experienced people a false sense of security when in reality as you stated the transition is still on going and what works for one may not work for another.  I believe that is what @melmarker was saying above in his comment!  I do appreciate the laugh I got from you and will now crawl back under my rock.  ;)

@tommy2, I appreciate what you are saying but no comments override the importance of carefully checking what d-u proposes to do before hitting Y to proceed. This is mentioned many times here and one must particularly take heed of impending removals.
In my case it was a new install and the install image is many months behind the current state of packages so upgrading as soon as possible is important. It went well for me so I feel sharing that experience may be valuable to someone. YMMV.

The problem with smxi depends on a bug in wget:
