[EN] printer stops working after updates
« on: 2016/09/09, 03:20:32 »
Hi,

I have an HP laserjet p1606dn and every time after an update my printer stops printing. I have to remove the printer and re run hp-setup to reinstall it so I can print again. The error I keep seeing is filter errors.

Does anyone know if I can do anything to stop it from breaking every time there is an update?

Thanks

Beau

edit: I also wanted to mention that my printer is connected using a network connection.

I have a p1606dn, and it does often get uninstalled by incoming packages, especially CUPS packages.  Here is the note that I wrote to myself a couple years ago:

"#hp "filter failed" error

Alt-F2 "kdesu hp-plugin -u --required --reason 0"

give password, accept default "download from hp server" choice, etc.

or use interactive (text) mode in terminal:

~/$ dbus-launch hp-plugin -i --required --reason 0

The firmware lives at /usr/share/hplip/data/firmware"

But, I think we don't have "kdesu" any more, so just open a terminal and issue the terminal command.

This is also what I do when it breaks after an upgrade. It would be nice if it fixed itself though.
