Title: [solved] Warning: partly upload of new Xorg 18.0
Post by: musca on 2016/01/27, 00:22:51
Hello,

the xserver-xorg packages (version 2:1.18.0-2) have hit debian unstable.
Some of the packages are still missing.

Users of proprietary drivers (fglrx and nvidia) should prepare themselves to wait a little longer.

If one was not very carefull  how can "restore" the system?
Is it possible with chroot, after xorg is fully uploaded in the repo? (will be possible to install xorg from the chroot ebviroment?)
Thank you

You don't need a chroot, you only need a working tty.
Then you have to reinstall all xorg-packages you installed from sid, from testing or snapshot-archive.
If you have the old packages in /var/cache/apt/archives, you can use those too.

Hit e, add a "3" at the end of the line which beginns with linux, hit ctrl +x or F10.

User of nvidia here. Everything went fine for me.
Just needed to go to recovery and reinstall xserver-xorg, which drew a few dependencies. Otherwise keyboard + mouse weren't functioning for me.

Hello,

transition is over after a binary Non-Maintainer-Upload (binNMU) of xserver-xorg-input-evdev, and xserver-xorg is installable again.
qemu users, please make sure you didn't remove xserver-xorg-video-qxl.
Even nvidia-driver 352.79 is already compatible.

Two systems upgraded, now working good.

xserver-xorg-video-qxl is removed by the d-u, but it can be reinstalled afterward with no problems. New nvidia driver installed as usual in init 3, old module manually removed before restarting X.  All looks good.   :)
