Title: boot stop/stalls usb mouse
Post by: anon_proxy on 2013/11/24, 12:52:17
Hi all,

Since kernel-3.11.x series and beyond if my usb mouse is actually plugged in the boot just stops/stalls.  I experimented yesterday and found that if the usb mouse is not plugged into the small 4 port usb  hub then the boot is just fine.   Siduction is fine with the usb hub on startup, and once up and running the mouse is just recognised and working straight away when plugged into the hub.

Its not a big thing as it can be got around as described, but this does not happen on other systems.

Question:  does the mouse interrupt boot when it is plugged directly into the USB port on the PC?

Actually I did some more experimentation.  But that was curtailed as an another problem resurfaced.

Code: [Select]
ata4: SATA linkdown (SStatus 0 SControl 300)
Its at this point that I reinstalled grub into sda - lilo from slackware was replaced.

The problem has gone.  But why?  All other distros are fine with lilo (apart from pclinuxos) and that is nolonger installed.

Why does booting siduction with lilo cause problems for sid?

All the best...

I don't think the siduction user community has a lot of LILO users ....

I have, at some point in the past, observed the type of "boot hangs on the USB interface" that you saw.  Google "lilo hangs on usb bus" and you will see quite a lot.  None of them suggest the issues are limited to Debian sid.   :)

Hi

Doesnt do it for debian though either - that is does not hang/stop/freeze.

Cant find any info on the web no matter what search I do.

Trouble is I cant stand grub 2 anymore.

cheers

To be elabotrate on dibls post further up: does the mouse work, when it is plugged into the back ports  for USB? I have had problems booting with different usb-devices with a USB-switch and with the front usb-ports on the enclosure. This only happens, if 'Boot from USB' is enabled in the BIOS.

Besides that, for me, GRUB 2 just works for me. I only take notice of its existence when it upgrades.

This is intentional - and only for the first 5 Posts. After these posts there are no more capchas.
