« on: 2018/12/29, 10:59:35 »
Hello, I have installed my HP Deskjet 2130 All-in-one Printer/Scanner. Now there are 7 updates from HP are holding back by the system. I can't install them. What to do?

Waiting for what and for how long?

I could install hplip with all dependencies. So there is no general problem. Posting a terminal output wouldn't be bad.

Code: [Select]
apt install -s hplip
Is the system up to date?

In dutch is this the result:

bert@bert-pc:~$ apt install -s hplip

         Vereisten: libsnmp30 (>= 5.7.3+dfsg-4+b1~dfsg) maar 5.7.3+dfsg-3 zal geïnstalleerd worden
Aanbevelingen: sane-utils maar het zal niet geïnstalleerd worden
E: Kan problemen niet verhelpen, u houdt defecte pakketten vast.

Just a little help for my country-man:

bert@bert-pc:~$ apt install -s hplip
NOTE: This is just a simulation!
For actual execution apt needs administrator rights.
Also note that lock is disabled.
So do not rely on its relevance to the current concrete situation!
Package lists are read in... Ready
Tree of requirements is built up
The status information is read... Ready
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean
that you have asked for an impossible situation, or, if you are
used the distribution 'unstable', that some required packages still need to be created or were removed from 'Incoming'.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unsatisfied requirements:
hplip : requirements: libhpmud0 (= 3.18.12+dfsg0-2) but 3.17.10+repack0-5 will be installed
         Requirements: libsnmp30 (>= 5.7.3+dfsg-4+b1~dfsg) but 5.7.3+dfsg-3 will be installed
Recommendations: sane-utils but it will not be installed
E: Could not fix problems, you are holding defective packages.

Greetings and best wishes for all,
Jörg

It's quite obvious, even without translation. "Opmerking" sounds funny in German. ;) Codebox (the # icon) would have been more important. Never mind.

molen15, I asked, is the system up to date?

Code: [Select]
apt update; apt upgrade

I updated it and did an upgrade. After that I got this:

root@bert-pc:/home/bert# apt install -s hplip
Pakketlijsten worden ingelezen... Klaar
Boom van vereisten wordt opgebouwd
De statusinformatie wordt gelezen... Klaar

hi,
if you want share the output of apt, for example use the
LANG=C option in front of your command.

Like
Code: [Select]
LANG=C apt policy hplip
hplip:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 3.18.12+dfsg0-2
  Version table:
     3.18.12+dfsg0-2 500
        500 http://deb.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages
     3.17.10+repack0-7.1 500
        500 https://packages.siduction.org/fixes unstable/main amd64 Packages
so the output is in english!
The other question, why the hack not
Code: [Select]
apt full-upgrade!?
We are using debian sid aka unstable and NOT ubuntu, so full-upgrade is the tool to use.

So i think your system is NOT up-to-date, some packages may, but your whole system not, if you use
apt upgrade and not apt full-upgrade!

Code: [Select]
~$ LANG=C apt -s install hplip hplip-gui
NOTE: This is only a simulation!
apt needs root privileges for real execution.
Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated,
so don't depend on the relevance to the real current situation!
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  linux-headers-4.19.10-towo.1-siduction-amd64 linux-headers-4.19.11-towo.2-siduction-amd64 linux-image-4.19.10-towo.1-siduction-amd64 linux-image-4.19.11-towo.2-siduction-amd64
Use 'apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following additional packages will be installed:
  hplip-data libsane-hpaio printer-driver-postscript-hp python3-dbus.mainloop.pyqt5 python3-notify2 python3-olefile python3-pexpect python3-pil python3-ptyprocess python3-renderpm
  python3-reportlab python3-reportlab-accel
Suggested packages:
  hplip-doc python-pexpect-doc python-pil-doc python3-pil-dbg python3-renderpm-dbg python3-egenix-mxtexttools python-reportlab-doc
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  hplip hplip-data hplip-gui libsane-hpaio printer-driver-postscript-hp python3-dbus.mainloop.pyqt5 python3-notify2 python3-olefile python3-pexpect python3-pil python3-ptyprocess

Solved now - there is a new version of libsensors5 and our mesa was in conflict.
