Hello dear gnome users,
according to the debian transition tracker (https://release.debian.org/transitions/) the next transition to gnome 3.10 (https://release.debian.org/transitions/html/libgnome-desktop-3-10.html) is already pending.
As soon as the first package of this series is uploaded the gnome desktop will be broken.
Stay tuned, read what apt puts on your screen and don't remove your whole desktop!
If you accidentally removed your gnome desktop by hitting the enter key too fast, please follow theese rules:
1. Don't panic!
2. Carry a towel (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technology_in_The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy#Towels) with you.
Usually your system can be repaired, at least when the transition is completely done.

Hi Musca,
I was on #debian-gnome, I think the gnome team is going to be skipping 3.10 and going straight to 3.12. I know a few things for 3.10 have been pushed out, but I think they are going to be bypassing 3.10 since 3.12 was released.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=740137 - the original plan was for 3.10 - the resulting version is not that relevant - beside this the transition will come and we will have a lot of fun 8)

hello,
today i see the first packages with version number 3.12, among them are:
libgtk-3-0
libgail-3-0
gir1.2-gtk-3.0
libcheese7
libcheese-gtk23
and cheese-common, which replaces: cheese (<< 2.30.1-1)
Dist-upgrade still didn't want to remove any gnome packages.
But be careful and read what your apt is going to do with your very own individual package list!
The transition will hit us soon!

Hello,
some more packages with version 3.12 have arrived, but still no removals occur:
yelp (with its libs)
gnome-themes-standard (+ data)
baobab
Please be careful and read what your apt is going to do with your very own individual package list!
The transition will hit us soon!

hello,
still doing daily dist-upgrades and gnome-tweak-tool 3.12.0-2 has appeared two days ago.
Today i had 39 packages in my d-u, mostly libreoffice, nothing gnome 3.12 specific.
So no issues so far.
Please read what your apt-get wants to do and be careful with your decisions.

Hello,
Today the transition has started. After d-u my gnome is broken (well, the snapshot).
Closing this thread I am opening a new thread for the dist-upgrade warning.
