KDE Connect
« on: 2015/01/12, 03:54:47 »
Not a problem but a solution. There have been several posts about connecting Android phones. I just installed KDE Connect and it seems to work better than anything else. Just install kdeconnect from the repo, and the app from Play Store. One click on each to connect over wifi!
The phone shows automatically in Dolphin and you can open or transfer files or play media. You can share a URL from the phone and it will open in the desktop browser. You can even use the phone as a touchpad for your desktop. And more.

Yes, it is a nice app.

I either give too many fucks or no fucks at all, it's like I cannot find a middle ground for a moderate fuck distribution, it's like what the fuck

Is it possible to prevent automatic connection between phone and KDE PC, once the two are paired? Or do they even pair without any first interaction?

I have the following szenario in mind: I'm at some friend's home. My phone's WLAN is always turned on there because I don't have a data flat rate. I use kde-connect (with my PC at home) and he too. He uses kde-connect to also display SMS and phone calls on the PC's screen. Now everytime when I'm in his room/his LAN I get auto-connected in kde-connect? And he can see the text of my incoming SMS? Or do I need to explicitly connect my phone to his PC once? And when done once I will always auto-connect? Or can I disable that without disabling WLAN?

A pairing request needs to be sent from the app and manually accepted. It doesn't automatically connect.

Thanks sunrat. So there's no danger getting into unwanted connections. But when the devices are paired: Can I unpair them from my phone, i.e. revoke the allowance or go into some kind of "stealth mode"?

This is a wonderful app and the first real competitor to osx handoff feature, which, even if still falls short about answering calls from pc, does a way lot more in pc/files management department.

In my opinion, a must add for next siduction releases!!!
Thanks for sharing!!!

There's an unpair funcion inside the menu, but menu location depends on android version.

I can imagine it is not intended to be used everyday, I would unpair a device if i give it away...and i hope not to give any smartphone too often :)
