Did a d-u on 3 machines today, one ended up with not booting and Kernel panic. I attach a photo of the screen. Ohhh, and the machine is starting with the kernel that was before the d-u (4.5.3.towo.1)The machine is as follows:

More than three days, and a lot more than 100 views, no answer, no help? I've never experienced that on this forum, is everybody on vacation, does nobody have any clue or is there no one who will help me?
Anyway I have continued to d-u this computer, maybe waiting for next kernel to see if that will work. Still "kernel panic" trying to boot with latest kernel.
I can give a little more information:
This is an old installation and my wife’s computer, I don't remember what I have done or installed but it seems like there is a lot of kde files on it, don't remember why. I have seen a long range of kde (it's a xfce installation) problems in the forum lately, can that be a reason?
It's also a multiarch installation because my wife wants to use skype sometimes.
The only way for me to solve this if the next kernel doesn't work and with my knowledge without help is to do a windowz, - a new installation.

Hi vilde,
Is there any error messages in the journal to the kernel panic?

Hi vilde,
Is there any error messages in the journal to the kernel panic?
Tell me what file(s) I shall look at and where I can find it/them and I shall try to have a look, and/or show them here.
I do have quit looking at log files myself because I never understand what they say anyway.

Hi Vilde,
had same or maybe similar problem, last 4.6-Kernels both had a kernel panic. My personal solution was kernel-remover and now I am running 4.5.6-towo.1-siduction-amd64 x86_64 again and decided to wait for maybe 4.7.x or a better running 4.6.x.
Just wanted to say you are probably not the onliest who experienced thus problems. Really sorry for not being able to provide a proper solution.
Greetings
Thomas

Thanks, feels good not to be alone ;)
The problem must be related to something specific or it would have hit a lot more users

Kernel 4.7-rc4 is in our experimental repo, you can try it and see, if your issue is gone.
On my two notebooks i can't reproduce your error, so there is not many, i can do.
It the moment, the buildserver is building a new 4.6 kernel with patch 4.6.3-rc2 included, maybe you can try this.

Hi vilde,
starts with a kernel that works, then you can command "journalctl" use to locate any errors that occurred. Please post the output here.
# journalctl --priority=crit --since=today
-
ok what I can return to mind is that both kernel panics (4.6.1 and 4.6.2) had errors with wpasupplicant short before panicking.
Since that I have problems to get up my wlan with "ifup wlan0" in case wicd network manager isn't able to do that.
Only ceni helped to get in my wlan again.

@bluelupo
# journalctl --priority=crit --since=today
gives the answer "no entries" (and yes i did reproduce the "kernel panic boot" today)
@towo
I did install Kernel 4.7-rc4 from experimental, the boot looked a little different than usual, some errors (different than normal) passed quickly on the screen but the computer booted and is now running with that kernel from experimental.
Shall I just go on running with this kernel? I guess that installing a kernel from experimental I will not get a new regular kernel until it will be newer than the one I have?
I will thank you for the help so far, do you want me to try something else to find what was wrong just tell me, for me it's ok that my wife’s computer is running.
Today we are celebrating Midsummer here in Sweden, so I will probably don't do much more on the computers today.

Same problem here with both 4.6.1 & 4.6.2 kernels.
Yesterday, during boot time, I had a kernel panic message showing a problem with wpasupplicant, but today, no error message, only dark screen and two leds flashing (Caps and Num lock).
I have no problem to get my wlan up.
No specific entrie with "journalctl ...".
Waiting for a new kernel, I boot with 4.5.4-towo.1
Good night

For information i installed the latest kernel 4.6.3-towo.1-siduction-amd64 on the computer with this problem. Unfortunately it's the same problem still, so I go on with the kernel from experimental.

Hello,
always same problem with kernel 4.6.4-towo. Here is the picture of the "kernel panic" screen.
It seems to be a wpa_supplicant problem ?
Thanks for your help !
-
Try kernel 4.7-rc7 from our experimental, if the issue is gone, write a bugreport to kernel bugzilla.

Hi Towo,
I tried 4.7-rc7 kernel and the problem disappeared.
Here is the bugreport to kernel bugzilla :
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=135441
Thank you

Today I installed "linux-image-4.7.0-towo.1-siduction-amd64" and the computer boots normally. That means that for me this issue is solved with the new kernel from towo.
As I have red that there is a bugreport about this issue I will not make this thread as solved. If somebody else (like towo) or administrator will mark this as solved you shall do that.
