Hardware - Support / Problems with AMD Graphics and Kernel 6.8

I have a AMD Navi 24 [Radeon RX 6300] card that does not work on any version 6.8.* kernel.  At first I thought it was due to the fact I was using multiple monitors and cards, but even a single monitor connected to the AMD card does not work.  It works without problems with versions 6.7* or earlier.

I cannot even boot into a VT with the boot option '3', as I get only a blank screen.   And I see no relevant error with "journalctl -p err -b".

Any suggestions?

I thought there  was need for a new patch from nvidia to make it work with 6.8.x and therefor was waiting for new nvidia packages all the time.  I may have misunderstood one of your postings ...

Anyway, modules for 6.8.x are build and system is rebooted ... all is fine.

I dunno, I'll probably put it on my laptop first. I test different distros on it. Before it goes on my desktop.

Maybe it's just me.

I think I hated arch more because of their "based on" philosophy goes, like Manjaro is.. I hate Manjaro. They call themselves a rolling release? They aren't.

I am currently happy with Sparky, but.. I want something more.

Ich danke euch ganz herzlich für die nette Begrüßung und die ganzen Infos! Das scheint mir ein sehr gutes Klima zu sein hier.

Und ja, bin im Norden in der Nähe von Bremen Zuhause. Für manche ist es ja noch der "südliche" Norden 

Dann werde ich mich mal ins Abenteuer stürzen und schauen, ob alles nach meinen Vorstellungen umgesetzt werden kann. Als erste Hürde steht meine etwas spezielle Partitionierung an. Der Calamares wird da seine Mühe haben. Freu mich schon auf ein aktuelles System. Wobei man sagen muss, dass Bookworm schon recht frisch ist im Vergleich zu vorher. Aber wie gesagt, ein Rolling Debian ist schon ne coole Sache. Es gibt Leute die sagen, dass der Unstable Branch von Debian stabiler läuft als manche andere Rolling Distro. Nach meinen Erfahrungen mit Arch, kann ich mir das gut vorstellen. Da war öfter mal ne Bastelstunde angesagt.

Was Debian angeht kenne ich mich recht aus. Bin vor Jahren mit Ubuntu gestartet und hab damit lange Zeit gearbeitet. Neben den Ausflügen durch die Linux Welt hatte ich immer ein Debian basierte System für die Arbeit am Start. Das ist absolut meine Welt, das ist wie ein Fels in der Brandung. Zu den Red Hat Derivaten z.B. hatte nie einen Draht. Zudem habe ich beruflich viel mit Proxmox zu tun. Da gab es auch einige Tauchgänge die etwas tiefer ins System gingen.

Kurze Antwort: Siduction sollte problemlos zu dir passen.

Ich selbst nutze Linux seit über 25 Jahren. Nach ersten Gehversuchen mit SuSE bin ich dann mit Potato endgültig auf Debian umgestiegen. Dabei bin ich ganz schnell in den unstable-Zweig gewechselt und über Kanotix bis heute zu Siduction eisern den langen Weg gegangen. Es ist mein Desktop-System ohne Alternativen, welches ich täglich nutze. Bis 2020 hingen auch etliche berufliche Dinge an diesem Rechner.
Da du schon länger mit Debian und wohl auch apt/dpkg vertraut bist, sollte dir die Pflege von Siduction keine größeren Probleme bereiten. Ich persönlich aktualisiere täglich, was die Situation leichter überschaubar macht, aber ein wöchentliches apt full-upgrade (dist-upgrade ist die veraltete gleichwertige Funktion) sollte man schon durchführen.
Dass es nach einer Erstinstallation (auch aus den Test Builds) zunächst eine größere Upgrade-Orgie gibt, ist normal. Aktuell haben wir die größte Transition bei Debian hinter uns (Umstellung auf das 64 Bit Zeitformat, t64 Transition). Die schlägt bei der Installation aus den offiziellen ISOs natürlich voll rein. Aber grundsätzlich häufen sich natürlich nach einer gewissen Zeit bei einer rolling release eine Menge aktualisierbarer Pakete an; das sind schnell mal mehr als 1000 Pakete. Der Vorgang ist aber einmalig und danach tritt wieder mehr oder wenig Ruhe ein. Mit etwas Disziplin bzgl. der Aktualisierungen (bitte nutze apt oder nala) hast du täglich ein aktuelles und funktionierendes System. Und die Pakete sind, Dank rolling release, immer der neueste Sche*ß?.

The reason I left Arch, is because I didn't like the daily ~100 updates.

I love my updates!

If you dislike updates, you will dislike siduction. You don't have to update every day, but just like Arch, if you wait for a week, then you will have a bucket full of updates. It's the same problem -- the software is under active development and updated packages are continuously flowing into the repos (and then to our installed systems).

I'm a happy siduction/aptosid/sidux user for ~14 years, desktops and laptops and notebooks. I use qemu/KVM, LibreOffice, gimp, wire, and browsers, mostly. Proprietary graphics and open graphics. It's all good.
