I don't know if this is a bug or what? I have had this issue for quite a while, I had the same long time ago on some of my aptosid installations. When I do "init 3" in a terminal window (as root) I will not get to a working terminal screen, I get to a black screen with a blinking line, can't do anything there. I have to do "ctrl+alt+F(x) to come to a working terminal.

As a workaround, you can do ctrl-alt- f1 instead of init 3. What happens with
Code: [Select]
systemctl isolate multi-user.target?

its a known bug - after the init 3 the system stay in the now empty tty.

meaning the now empty tty7 where your desktop was. You should be able to switch to the waiting tty1 from there just with ALT+F1
