Thanks for reminding me to dig a little deeper for something I've been missing since the switch to KF5.

A big part of my image(s) editing workflow involved using gwenview for *quick&easy* batch processing (resizing). Unfortunately, it seems this is still not ported to KF5. Hopefully it will be sooner, rather than later, but I have to find some other (similarly lightweight) tool to replace it in the meantime (something like "mogrify -resize 1200x800 ./*" can definitely serve the purpose, but it's a lot quicker to have it done while/after previewing photos with gwenview, and it's easier to select only the photos I want resized). Someone somewhere suggested showfoto but it's abysmally unusable & weird for the simple thing I wish to do.

I have Gwenview running fine in KF5. It's in kdenext and Debian unstable repos.
Code: [Select]
$ apt-cache policy gwenview
gwenview:
  Installed: 4:15.08.1-siduction1.3
  Candidate: 4:15.08.1-siduction1.3
  Version table:
 *** 4:15.08.1-siduction1.3 0
        500 ftp://ftp.uni-stuttgart.de/siduction/kdenext/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     4:15.08.1-1 0
        500 http://ftp.au.debian.org/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages

So, you can do batch resize in gwenview? I mean, gwenview seems to be otherwise running smoothly, I just can't use any of the plugins (and I have kipi-plugins installed).

And I see I have a fresher version than you, could this be a regression?

I can't see a way to batch resize, and I have kipi-plugins. I never used it anyway, I've always used Gimp with gimp-plugin-registry to batch resize. Digikam also has a good resizer.

Nomacs is in siducton repros and allows batch operations, I think it is broken with Qt problems at the moment.

http://nomacs.org/batch-processing/

I had been using it for a couple of months and liked it.

@Sunrat, digiKam and GIMP always felt too much of an overkill for such a quick job. :)

@titan, thanks! Nomacs works here, and batch processing work as well! :D

For the quick job: I'm mostly using dolphin together with kim servicemenu (imagemagick) for batch resizing... or phatch - the latter especially if I want to add a watermark/copyright/tag at the same time.

Interestingly, I might have done it like that as well, not sure, but I'm sure I lost a lot of functionality/features with the KF5, including in Dolphin - I remember having a lot more options when right-clicking something in Dolphin, but now I know for sure I miss the PACPL converting options, for one thing.

I have imagemagick installed and following this advice I got at least some  options back when right clicking in Dolphin (for example, the Ark's Extract... option wasn't there until I linked the proper file), but that's a far cry from how it was.

How do you get to the batch resizing in Dolphin? Any special package I should install?

That blog about photo workflow and software used is indeed interesting. I've read there before, Riley Brandt likes to propagate the usage of Linux and open source software whereever possible.

Thanks titan for mentioning nomacs, looks promising. In my windows days, I used XnView for browsing/viewing/(batch-)converting through my image collection. There is now a crossplatform version called XnViewMP (.deb on hand), and the converting part is also available standalone as XnConvert. BTW, does someone know if the 'rotation' part in nomacs is 'lossless jpeg rotation'?

For dolphin + servicemenus I used kim earlier after spacepenguin mentioned it once in the forum. I always thought that dolphin and gwenview need kipi-plugins to achieve their stuff (but I may be totally wrong), and from the debian page for the kipi-plugins they announce it partially ported to Qt4/KDE4, which does not look promising for Qt5/Plasma5. But maybe I miss something or I don't know that it's replaced by some package...

regarding nomacs - i think it should install just fine - btw: We will land it in debian with the next release.

There will be some packages in debian soon that are now only in the siduction repos: https://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=agaida@siduction.org

I show my QA page because i own the ITP Bugs - these bugs are not visible on the team page.
