Title: Does it seem safe to remove python-kde4?
Post by: vayu on 2014/05/10, 16:05:59
It's upgrading other Python packages so seems ok, but I'm a little nervous. I'm on KDE. (the hold is intentional)

Code: [Select]
# apt-get dist-upgrade -d
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  kde-config-touchpad plasma-scriptengine-python python-kde4
The following packages have been kept back:
  jitsi
The following packages will be upgraded:
  gnome-video-effects libyajl2 python-qt4 python-qt4-dbus python-sip
5 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 3 to remove and 1 not upgraded.

I would not let it go. Next sync will probably fix the missing package related to python-sip.

I just tried a dist-upgrade and I'm still showing python-kde to be removed.  I keep apper for the notifications, and, that's also to be removed.

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  apper kde-config-touchpad python-kde4 python3-pykde4 software-properties-kde

I also use iceweasel from experimental, and, it seems due to version numbering, the iceweasel in unstable wants to upgrade over the iceweasel in experimental.

# apt-cache policy iceweasel
iceweasel:
  Installed: 29.0-2
  Candidate: 29.0.1-1
  Version table:
     29.0.1-1 0
        500 http://http.debian.net/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
 *** 29.0-2 0
          1 http://http.debian.net/debian/ experimental/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

At least I'm assuming the iceweasel version number is higher in experimental.
It might be time for me to go up one more version number and install iceweasel from mozilla.debian.net.

# apt-cache policy iceweasel
iceweasel:
  Installed: 29.0-2
  Candidate: 30.0~b2-1
  Version table:
     30.0~b2-1 0
        500 http://mozilla.debian.net/ experimental/iceweasel-beta amd64 Packages
     29.0.1-1 0
        500 http://http.debian.net/debian/ unstable/main amd64 Packages
 *** 29.0-2 0
          1 http://http.debian.net/debian/ experimental/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

Looks like i deleted it by mistake:

Code: [Select]
Remove: kde-config-touchpad:amd64 (0.8.1-2), python-kde4:amd64 (4.12.1-90r0), libnss3-nssdb:amd64 (3.15.4-1), libgoa-1.0-0:amd64 (3.8.3-2)
Error: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
End-Date: 2014-05-11  18:04:29

Now for example i cannot change my kde wallpaper. The file open dialoge freezes.

Right now it is not possible just to reinstall this packages. (fresh install, ernel 3.14-3.towo-siduction-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit) Distro Debian GNU/Linux jessie/sid, siduction-13.2.1-december-kde-amd64-201401272125)

What can I do?

My guess is, this will be fixed shortly, so just wait it out.

kde-config-touchpad:amd64
That went a week ago, as I'm using Gnome I let it go just like python-kde4. But the llvm bug hit me. That was the SSD install, running from Disc again. Boy is that slow...  :D

Hello, pykde4 in kdenext needs to be rebuilt, it will be fixed as soon as possible.

EDIT: In case it isn't obvious enough, in general, it's not ok to remove python-kde4, it's better to wait a bit until you get a fixed package.

A fix is landing in kdenext now. Please let us know if the problem isn't gone in a few hours.
