Title: Qt 5.11 Transition started
Post by: melmarker on 2018/07/25, 16:59:15
One could take the chance and update frequently and as soon as possible if one want to get rid of KDE Plasma (at least the platform dependend parts) - all others should take extra care and releax for two or three days. Same goes for LXQt.

Thanks for the warning!  I just upgraded a KDE and a LXQt system, but the dangerous packages aren't yet available in the U.S.

(Patience ...)

Patience, that's the perfect name for siducton we just need to have a little more some times like during transitions. Though it is very hard to keep still knowing there is something newer just around the corner. ;)

This morning, I stopped waiting.   ;D

On my KDE laptop, d-u ran two times.  First time:

Code: [Select]
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  kpartsplugin libnepomuk4 libnepomukquery4a libnepomukutils4 plasma-widget-adjustableclock
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  linux-headers-4.17.11-towo.1-siduction-amd64 linux-image-4.17.11-towo.1-siduction-amd64
The following packages will be upgraded:
  bind9-host binutils binutils-common binutils-x86-64-linux-gnu bsdutils cpp-6 cpp-8 cryptsetup-bin ...
.
.
.
248 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 5 to remove and 0 not upgraded.
Need to get 317 MB of archives.

Apt-listbugs still shows a warning on util-linux, but I think it is a different issue than two days ago. So I proceeded with the d-u.

Then a reboot.

Second d-u:

Code: [Select]
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  linux-headers-4.17.8-towo.2-siduction-amd64 linux-image-4.17.8-towo.2-siduction-amd64
Use 'apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following packages have been kept back:
  cpp-8 g++-8 gcc-8 gcc-8-base libasan5 libatomic1 libcc1-0 libgcc-8-dev libgcc1 libgfortran5
  libgomp1 libitm1 liblsan0 libmpx2 libquadmath0 libtsan0 libubsan1 login
The following packages will be upgraded:
  akonadi-backend-mysql akonadi-server libkf5akonadi-data libkf5akonadiagentbase5
  libkf5akonadicore5abi1 libkf5akonadiprivate5abi1 libkf5akonadiwidgets5abi1
7 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 18 not upgraded.
Need to get 2,390 kB of archives.
After this operation, 197 kB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n]

I tested "kdesu konsole" and it works correctly. In a user konsole terminal I tested "su" and it works correctly.

I looked for nepomuk packages and there is only one left:

Code: [Select]
root@hp-350g:/# apt-cache policy nepomuk*
nepomuk-core-data:
  Installed: 4:4.14.3-siduction1
  Candidate: 4:4.14.3-siduction1
  Version table:
 *** 4:4.14.3-siduction1 100
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I don't know whether that one is needed any more, or not, so I will leave it until those who know better than me (or apt) says it is not needed.

If there is anything different about my system or my desktop settings, I can't find it by working with it.  Probably the Qt 5.11 documentation tells what is changed.

So for me, the waiting is over.  Your mileage may vary, of course.    8)

Same here - apt full-upgrade removed these packages:

kpartsplugin libnepomuk4 libnepomukquery4a libnepomukutils4

I guess you don't need kpartsplugin anymore (Netscape-compatible plugin to embed KDE file-viewers into browser, last updated in 2012) and since baloo replaced nepomuk there should be no need to keep the nepomuk libs. There are no nepomuk related packages installed on my system but lots of baloo packages.

I do not notice any problems. I for example checked su -c lsmod => it works as expected.

Ja, die Pakete sind obsolet und konnten gefahrlos entfernt werden. Jedenfalls bootet das System nach dem d-u einwandfrei und auch KDE zeigt bisher keine Auffälligkeiten :-)

d-u just completed successfully, no apt-listbugs warning for util-linux and su appears to be working.

A d-u is long overdue on my kde5/plasma system, but are these removals safe?  It I don't care about the libre office style, but what about python-kde4 & libdns1100 ?

Code: [Select]
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  kpartsplugin libdns1100 libnepomuk4 libnepomukquery4a libnepomukutils4 libreoffice-style-galaxy  python-kde4
[/code[

My list of "these will be removed" went down to two items, almost there.
Title: Re: Qt 5.11 Transition started
Post by: dibl on 2018/07/31, 19:14:10
@Kan, I think the list of removals is related to how old a KDE installation is.  On my HP laptop (earlier post) that was originally "Indian Summer", there were 5 removals.  On a "Patience" system set up earlier this month, there were only 2 removals.

EDiT:   And don't assume all removals will eventually disappear.  Sometimes sid packages become obsolete and are removed through the d-u.

That is true. Also the package maintainers may just be slow in updating. I will wait a few more days and then do an update.

All of those were removed with my d-u last night except kpartsplugin and python-kde4, both of which are not installed at all. You should be good to go if that's all the removals.

You might be waiting forever for your 2 removals to not appear on the list. What packages are they?It may be best to do your d-u now while there are only 2 removals!  ;)

@sunrat  Thanks. I'd worked out that libdns1100 would go when dnsutils was updated, but that status of pyhton-kde4 remained a query.  Decided to d-u now and restore if necessary.

edit: D-U completed OK but util-linux pakage update is still causing issues.

Two nights ago I updated a KDE and LXQt install with no untoward effects. The files removed were either replaced or weren't needed anymore. I think it's safe at the moment.

Edit: Thanks melmarker, good to know.
