Hi everyone!
I just made a new install & did my first upgrade & full-upgrade. Everything seems to be going well. Siduction is great, it's just what I was looking for.
I'm not a total newb, we banished Micro$ from our house many years ago. I'd say that my skills are intermediate. I distro-hopped a little bit a while back but have mostly stuck with Mint. I decided that I would look into Debian but LMDE only comes with Cinnamon & I prefer XFCE. Even on a newer machine. Why? Because it flies! It is also way more customisable. I installed vanilla Debian but it threw some wild error messages when I did the upgrade to Forky which I eventually gave up on.
I'm writing from a very old Acer Aspire which has its problems. In fact it wouldn't recognise the live USB & for some reason, despite all my tweaking & I couldn't get F5 or F6 to work in the Bios. You may laugh at me, well I hope that this causes some amusement: I opened the laptop, took out the drive, stuck it in an external caddy, formatted it & set up the partitions just the way I like them in advance. Then, when I put it back in, the USB stick was the only OS available! :-))
I've already learned a lot. Great! That's why I'm here in this forum.
Cheers!
Bbbarry.
Welcome, Barry! Congratulations on overcoming your installation challenges.
We're mostly KDE/Plasma users here, but we have heard of XFCE. Keep an eye on the Upgrade Warnings forum and you will do well with siduction. if you get stuck on a technical issue, you will find a lot of knowledge here.
Hi!
Thanks. I've written in the Software Support section.
Bbbarry.
Hello,
some more people (like myself on 2 boxes) are also happy XFCE users. 😉
regards
Reiner
I'm also a long time Xfce. Welcome.
