My system is not able to shut down properly. It hangs at last voice, and i have to long press the power button (i have a laptop). At reboot i have no error message of incorrect shutdown. I don't know if it is a hardware or software problem. It worked till some days ago with aptosid.

It hangs at last voice
What does that mean exactly?
How do You try to shut down? Does it work from konsole?
How did you upgrade to KDE 4.7.4?

thank you for these questions

What does that mean exactly?
it means: i have a console screen where it shows services disable correctly and at least "shutting down" or something like that.

i shut down using kde menu. I will try using console with halt as su user. This is fresh siduction kde install, except for upgrading using experimental kde

How did you upgrade to KDE 4.7.4?
i used instructions in qt-kde debian page (http://pkg-kde.alioth.debian.org/kde47.html) using their preferences file.
I've the same problem with an asus notebook.

I leave the system with shut down on KDE, the system goes down and stops with
" Will now halt"
"[SOME NUMBERS] Power down"
The system stay in the console and switches not off.
I have to press the powerbutton for about 5 seconds, then is the system off.
Shutdown -n-P now from the console fails too.
I've tried in the grub menue "acpi=off"
The result is the same in letters like above "" and if i press then the powerbutten, the system switches immediately off.
I started siduction.iso from a usb-stick, the result is, the system switches not off. I tried aptosid2011_02.iso, the same result as describt before. aptosid2011_01.iso switches the system down and off. A test with a sidux.iso is also good.
Since i have this problem, switch off, there is another one with the battery energy display. This means the battery is corrupt.
After this tests, my meaning is some moduls in the kernel do not cooperate.
If some logs requiered, please let me now, i will try to post it.
Thanks

I cannot reproduce the problem on 2 boxes here. Shutdown from kmenu just works.

Although I don't have a laptop, I can't reproduce this on 4 desktop machines
i got it solved with last kernel update. It was not due to kde, as it hunged using init or shutdown or halt from console. It did not happen using reboot, funny. Now it works well. Could be an hardware (or bios) bug?
i sometime use vga_switcheroo to use my ATI card insted of intel integrated one. When i use the discrete card i noticed that suspen to RAM does not work. I usually turn again on the integrated one before shutdown. When i keep the ATI discrete on i am unable to turn off my laptop. It is true also using arch linux.
since kernel 3.3.2 my problem is solved. the last kernel which work was 2.6.37. i've read a lot posts from users, they have the same problem, after shut down, the systems switches not off. i think my notebook is very old, and have had a problem with acpi. a bios-update was not possible, there are no newer, than the installed.
thanks
