I am not one to sit and watch movies on my Computer.
Flash will serve most of my needs for tutorials etc.......
But I do have items on the hard drive of the wmv format so I installed VLC player.
I also like XINE but never got good results with Mplayer.
What solutions are you using?
Thanks all..
VLC does most anything i need in that respect.

In W7 too I use VLC.
In Linux Kaffeine too has done well so far.

for streaming media (german TV) I preferre vlc, never got smplayer to work with TV-streams.
For my videos on hd I use smplayer, and I choose it over vlc.
I am using xine as stand-alone player and within freevo for most videos and recorded dvd-images.

I discovered bangarang a couple months ago -- the user interface is a little obscure, but it plays everything (that you have the codecs for). It is much lighter than the heavyweights (Amarok) but has more features than the lightweights (alsaplayer ...).

I have heard of that one -- I think it runs on IBM 80-column punch cards, right?
Actually thats not exactly true, it's *not* the IBM 80-column but the IBM 96 column punched card format. It was ( and still is) used because it better fits the needs of binary systems (although 96 not really being binary, therefore it had been devided in a 64 and a 32 column part and that's why nowadays you still can use it with intel32 AND amd64).
But you don't need anymore to feed moc with mp3 or ogg file punched cards, which today makes moc much more comfortable.
Here is one playing "One step beyond"

(above the 19" rack with its punched card reader is vaguely perceptible behind the punched card strap beeing feeded to it.)
I only wanted to give you a lightweight alternative that "has more features than ...alsaplayer ..." ;-)
I like Moc for music, simple, does all I need , less is more.
