linux-sound-base: base package for ALSA and OSS sound systems

If anybody has a problem with the soundlevel you hear from your speakers/headphones, use alsamixer in the terminal and reconfigure the levels. Go up with the "arrow up"-key to the "max green" level and do it also with the other levels if you need them. The right arrow key will go to the next option (Headphone, PCM etc.).
I ran d-u this morning and let linux-sound-base go. I find no issues with sound or music players.
So is it really OK for linux-sound-base to be removed?
Edit: bug report #662038 here indicates this package to be removed as it is obsolete:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=662038
KDE is fine without it. I've run bangarang, xine player, flash, and skype today -- zero issues with audio. I can't testify regarding the other DEs.

alsa-utils is the package that has amixer and alsamixer
went ahead and said yes, no problems with sound.
No problems here.
I think that this package provided something which alsa (and others) provide themselves now, after the upgrade.
