Title: conflict: libreoffice dependencies (& dist-upgrade)
Post by: grady on 2012/06/11, 23:35:39
Friends:

Trying to dist-upgrade, I am presented with unmet libreoffice dependencies that demand resolving before dist-upgrade will proceed.
"apt-get -f install" reports lots, but I think this is the central statement:

"dpkg: regarding .../libreoffice-core_1%3a3.5.4-3_i386.deb containing libreoffice-core:
libreoffice-core conflicts with libreoffice-base(<< 1.3.5.4-3)
libreoffice-base (version 1:3.5.2-6) is present and unpacked but not configured"

How do I fix this, please?

Very easy to fix, we do it all very often here:

grady,

please provide full output of what apt-get -f install says, so we can decide what is important and how to fix.

Here goes. Since I'm not able to copy from tty1, I'll read from one machine, and write to another. So there may be some typos, but probably only in punctuation.

there is a very easy way to get the output of any command:siduction-paste apt-get -f install This will return a line likehttp://paste.siduction.org/20120612071520 and you give us this url and your paste can be looked at.

One more thing: Please put output of commands in code-brackets, like I did above. It helps redability. You can either set them manualy or find them in preview mode.

Now to your problem:
What does apt-get update && apt-get install libreoffice-base do? Please provide output.
Other than that you need to run a dist-upgrade as soon as this is solved. You got 609 packages waiting.

if I was wrong with my first: Is this also that one-day weekend bug of dpkg? Should we simply provide a little script to forcely reinstall the latest 199 packages?

siduction-paste seems a little balky. I issued the command exactly as you asked. Anyway, you have "update".
Now:
http://paste.siduction.org/20120613072210

I've issued the command
siduction-paste apt-get -f install
---no reply, cursor's been blinking at me for ten minutes.

Two hours later, cursor still blinking: several clicks on "enter" yielded:
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1), then the siduction-paste:

Post by: grady on 2012/06/17, 19:21:23
Friends:

Solution, from a member of ELUG (my local Edmonton Lunux Users' Group): to remove libreoffice:
apt-get remove libreoffice*.*

Next, I did a long-overdue dist-upgrade. Took 15 minutes.
Next, I tried to reinstall libreoffice. System refused. It told me, and I did:
apt-get -f install
That also took a long time.
After, I was able to reinstall libreoffice.
All appears to be in order.
Best to all,
grady
