Title: Who has experiences with Qnap TS 412 /419 (NAS)
Post by: Lanzi on 2013/01/19, 16:36:12
I have some old 2 Gybte HDDs here which I could use as backup and cloudspace. ALso I would like to stream my music in my house! Multimedia is def. a subject!

So I read a bit and I must tell, that the qnap system seems quite open and users are really content (for example on amazon)

If I understand it right, the TS 412 ist the older model? Here in Gernmany it costs about 100-150 Euros less than the 419 (which also conxums more power!).

So my questions:
1. Are there big differences between the two models?

2. Is there any reason why I def., should buy the newer one?

3. I read, that Qnap gives regular updates... good!
But what are they updating... the firmware, drivers or also the underlying Linux?
(is it Debian?)
(in case, that the linux is not updated, a year old model like the TS 412 seems really outdatet... and I wont buy it...)

4. Can I install owncloud on it?

Thanks for your experiences!

I have had a Qnap TS 119 for a few year, there are regular updates the latest one has owncloud. Have a look on the Qnap site for details of all that is on the latest firmware.
