Anyone have any tips on updating bios with Opensource tools?
I tried Freedos but i couldn't load the firmware off my flash drive.

Is there a linux utility to update bios?

You can also wait for more replies, I did at one time have a list of motherboards that flashed easily in linux, but, due to a harddrive failure, I lost everything I have, you can probably google it

Thanks for trying to answer. I knew of arcane ways with floppy/cd images. I was just hoping maybe someone smarter than me had figured out a better way. My own searches turned up alot of stale information and it wondered if there was a better solution.

It really has nothing to do with knowledge, a motherboard has to be compatible (flashing outside of windows)

there is more and you can go to the motherboard(s) main site to see about whether the motherboard you choose/chosen is supported

I see quite a bit of criticism of Asus boards, but this built-in "EZ Flash" firmware utility, which includes BIOS flashing, is another reason that my next system board will probably be another Asus.

Would definitely be a help to have a builtin BIOS flash utility and this should work regardless of the OS installed. IF this is done right then I'd support the mobo makers for incorporating this into the BIOS firmware

What about Flashrom? This is a Linux based utiliy and that still is being developed.
