update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv
Thanks, I need these reminders.
+1
at some point in time i came to the conclusion that i need flash to be updated on regular basis, without my personal intervention.
after searching the web, i found this solution:
create the file /etc/cron.daily/flash and make it executable
add the following contents:
test -x /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree && /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree --install --quiet
Thanks, absolut!
Nice one -- thanks absolut!
Are there more than me that have (intermittent) problems with flash in Iceweasel after latest flash-update?
flash is per se a long lasting problem. And as long as you don't give us more specific info about why and how your problem is only *intermittent* we consider your problem *not solvable*.
I see no problem with youtube videos, cnn.com, intellicast.com, etc. No problem in iceweasel, also no problem in chromium-browser. Possibly the problem is with some specific site(s)?

For example this http://www.airasia.com/ot/en/where-we-fly/route-map.page? is not working for me, the map will only flicker och blink or whatever it is called, sometimes I can see the map but it doesn't work as it shall when I click on the map. XFCE, 64 bit
I suffer since the last flashupdate from really frequent iceweasel-freezes!
Only closing iceweasel helps!

fluxbox (xfce install), 32 bit.
No technical problems apart from the fact that it took near to a minute to load.

Works correctly here, iceweasel and chromium browser, KDE.
The site works fine here, can click on any part of the map
firefox, chromium browser, and kde
In iceweasel
about:config
type in the search barplugins.click_to_playdoubleclick on the setting to toggle it to "false"
If false is already set, leave it, it is not ready for prime-time yet to set it to true, although you may "experiment" with it ;)
Not working here. I removed all my extensions, adblock+ and element hiding but that didn't help
If you test it with another browser (chromium-browser, konqueror, whatever), you might learn whether the problem is limited to iceweasel, or is bigger than that.
Tested with chromium and there it works with no problem. Purged iceweasel and installed again, same problem :(
Edit: Checked with another computer, same problem. The main is a Thinkpad T400 and the other checked is a Lenovo Ideapad z360. Both are 64 bit xfce.
which version of IW?
I am here with a newer one from http://mozilla.debian.net/
Maybe give it a try.
I have 17.0.6, installed from debian experimental 21.0, same problem.
Also checked one more computer here, Thinkpad Edge 64 bit xfce same problem
I don't know whether it makes any difference, but I have installed the esr (extended support release) version (you may choose at http://mozilla.debian.net/ under "version)
Did you know, when you purge a package, the config files in your home were *not* removed! If you then reinstall this or a new package, you have the same config as before. So you always should make sure to remove or save away the config file/folders in your home if you want try a new install.
Maybe you could test the current install, but save away your home/IW folder.
You could try a live CD and install flash as a test, too.

When I try esr it shows just to install iceweasel without changing repo, so I think esr is standard in sid?
Here it looks like this:

I edited my above posting (config in home), please read.
I did a new installation on the T400 on the second hd. With a new installed 64 bit xfce with the newest iceweasel and newest flashplugin it works perfect. After a complete d-u it fails again. So my conclusion so far is that it is something else than Iceweasel and flash is causing the problem alone.
Edited: Now I have also tried to start with some older kernels but that didn't make any difference.
Maybe the part of this topic related to my problem shall be moved from upgrade-warnings, so we are not bothering others in this important place? That's up to the moderators to decide.

It's worth a bug report. And if you don't find the culprit it's still IW not working.
Just tried with the new release, Firestarter, installed Iceweasel and flasplugin-nonfree on live cd and I have the same problem there.
Edited: Also purged flashplugin and tried with browser-plugun-gnash, same problem....
Maybe ariasia isn't the best site to test with. Today it does not work here, neither with IW, nor with Opera.
I have the same problems on some other sites, but this problems disappears if I disable adblocker. It bothers me, because the problem looks the same but on air asia it's not the adblock.
Edited: I checked around a little more, seems like it's only Air Asia so far that have this problem not related to adblock-plugin. So maybe we shall leave this for a while and say it's a Air Asia problem? They are nice and cheap to fly with though ;)
Tell *them* about the problem if you like this airline.
Bump
Flash 11.2.202.297 is out today.
Note: if you use the cron script in the 3rd post in this thread, don't forget the '#!/bin/sh'...
Quote from: seasons... Note: if you use the cron script in the 3rd post in this thread, don't forget the '#!/bin/sh'...
I really had problems and wasn't aware of the missing shebang.
http://forum.siduction.org/index.php?msg=30945#30945
Thanks for mentioning it!
So the content of /etc/cron.daily/flash shold be:
Quote#!/bin/sh
test -x /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree && /usr/sbin/update-flashplugin-nonfree --install --quiet
It needs to be executable.
There is a new flash version (11.2.202.335), but I wonder why the script (cronjob) didn't update to it? I successfully updated manually now.
Just FYI for KDE users -- I recently discovered kcm_cron. In krunner, launch "kdesu kcmshell4 kcm_cron". To set a cron job, first set up the command to be run, and enable all months, then enable either a date in the month, or a date in the week, or all days if you want it to run daily. Then set the time of day to run, and "apply" and you are done.
Is this just a frontend/configuration tool to cron or do *the created cronjobs* work only if KDE is lauched?
That's an excellent question and I honestly don't know for sure. But, my logic says "Why would you enable a root-authorized cron job at 3:00 a.m. if it won't work when no users are logged in?". So my bet is, it runs regardless of whether a KDE session is running or not. I'll dig around and see if I can learn more.

I'd say: That's a completly different question which is *answerd* installing anac(h)ron (which, to put it in a nutshell, executes cronjobs not executed at its time because the system was down at the time the job was configured for. But anac(h)ron is installed by default, I guess).

I think so -- it's in all my systems and I never manually installed it.
To clarify, "kcm_cron" is a module for kcmshell4. There are many other modules, which can perform many desktop configuration tasks. kcmshell4, as part of KDE, is normally a user utility, but by calling it with "kdesu" you can do root tasks with it (similar to kate or konsole).

Script worked fine for me...
