Could the prob only coming with a slow SSD ?
Only with this "slow" SSD i often get this message:
"WARNING: unresponsive script"
(or: nicht antwortendes skript )
First: only in running "Iceweasel"
later: in running kde : okular ( open a bigger pdf-file )
"Script:chrome://messenger/content/messengercompose/MsgComposeCommands.js:2817
or with German error code:
"WARNUNG: Nicht antwortendes Skript"
Skript:resource:///components/nsPrompter.js:434
And before I am waiting 5-7 minutes - because system freeze !!!
Info: SSD: the smalles and slowest (cheapest) : OCZ Petrol 64GB
64GB - PTL1-25SAT3-64G
Max Read: up to 185MB/s
Max Write: up to 95MB/s
Random Write 4KB: 7,800 IOPS
Random Read 4KB: 23,000 IOPS
But it-s a 4x quicker bootup ... :) (as my HDD samsung sata3 no-ssd)
What do hdparm and smartmontools tell you about the ssd?
# hdparm -tT /dev/sdx
# smartctl -t short /dev/sdx
later after some minutes:
smartctl -l selftest /dev/sdx
to read the test report.
hey dibl,
thx for fast answer !
hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 21408 MB in 2.00 seconds = 703.52 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 642 MB in 3.00 seconds = 213.79 MB/sec
smartctl -t short /dev/sda
...system freezes and black screen....the ssd is gone...no ssd in bios.
After power-off 5 min. reboot:
ssd is still in bios
Second: smartctl -t short /dev/sda
same as above !
...
smartctl -H /dev/sda
smartctl 6.2 2013-04-20 r3812 [x86_64-linux-3.9-4.towo-siduction-amd64] (local build)

Could it be a sign that the SSD is having problems. Having it disappear from BIOS is not a good sign and it could signify a hardware problem with the SSD.
So the raw speed of your SSD is not bad for a consumer grade SATA 2 device. I have one here:
root@tosh205:/# hdparm -ia /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
readahead = 256 (on)
Model=OCZ-VERTEX2, FwRev=1.35, SerialNo=OCZ-9290YAGQRH50XN20
Config={ Fixed }

DMA modes: mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 udma4 udma5 *udma6
AdvancedPM=no WriteCache=enabled
Drive conforms to: unknown: ATA/ATAPI-2,3,4,5,6,7
* signifies the current active mode
root@tosh205:/# hdparm -tT /dev/sda
/dev/sda:
Timing cached reads: 1166 MB in 2.00 seconds = 582.60 MB/sec
Timing buffered disk reads: 304 MB in 3.01 seconds = 100.85 MB/sec
Of more concern is the failure induced by smartctl -- that should not happen. That indicates a problem at the hardware/firmware level -- nothing to do with the OS, I believe. Not sure whether to suspect the BIOS or the SSD firmware, but something is not communicating correctly.
Are there firmware updates available for your BIOS or your SSD?
Once I had a Problem with a OCZ Vertex 2 that worked only with the Chipset intel sata2 port on my Board, not with marvel sata3 port. Every few minutes a freeze of ca. 30 sec. than going on.
This SSD was dead after 8Month, with Money back from Amazon.
Are you sure its a ssd problem? I only know this problem in webdevelopment and there its mostly a javascript interpreter problem. Some webkit (squirell fish) versions have problem with various javascript script. Interesting is the okular part but as far as I know kde also uses squirellfish (formely known as KJS) as script engine?
@joogi:
Yes, I think You are on the right way ! (i often hang with "google.com -search-things" or special investigations on german "building-laws"... Is there a workaround with "squirellfish" around ?
@dieres: I'm in contact with ocz-forum: 2months ago this ssd was "gone" ...but after 4 days suddenly the bios found this ssd. So i updated immediately the firmware, recovered the lost-datas, flash-deleted - and the ssd was near-new :) ....mmmmh. Mistding. But it runs now for a while ! Is there a 12month -or a 24month "Gewährleistung" if it goes away=completely wrecked ?
They want to send me -in that case - a vertex as a replacement ..afaik.

Maybe take them up on that offer...send them your old drive and they can take a look at it
Firmware updates seem to be a must for ssd's these days to fix bugs or other issues that could arise
Well: my feedback:
Since 3 days ( with steady d u ) no problems : with unresponsive scripts !
Was there an improvement ?

So that firmware update worked?
@DeepDayze:
Yes, ...or so it seems/seems to be
Here is a list of new firmware - versions ( at the beginning of all postings) : http://www.ocztechnologyforum.de/forum/forumdisplay.php?4-SSDs&s=9b88f3fb371439dfd18ce8c7841eaf92
So - i make my daily backup - to be on a saver/more secure side
(':wink:')
Great...give it a few more days and here's hoping your problem is solved and it never hurts to keep a backup :)
