In order to get a firestarter inst with a GUI I have listed the steps I did/assume to do. I just have a init 3 and do not know, where my fault is. The nvidia inst instructions seem to be outdated.
1) Install Firestarter
2) d-u (the real big one)
3) Open vim and generate the 20-nvidia.conf file
4) dpkg -l | grep nvidia provides none
dpkg -l | grep nouveau provides xserver-xorg-video-nouveau:
Do i have to do anything with this like purging or anything else before 5)?
5) apt-get install nvidia-legacy-304xx-driver nvidia-vdpau-driver .
Will this lead to a correct working init 5 firestarter? Do I miss anything else?
which firestarter flavour did you use? nox?
Hi michaa7,
kde!
It was not my intention to post a warning. Was this my fault or did anybody move?
have you installed nvidia-legacy-304xx-kernel-dkms, such that the nvidia kernel module is built automatically?
has the nvidia kernel module been loaded?
paste /var/log/Xorg.0.log after you have attempted to boot into X (init 5)
Thanks absolut,
this looks better now. The module is loaded.
I will test firestarter now and come back, should I need expertise on var log.
But seems now I can have init 5 now.
