Title: solved: new nvidia drivers break multiarch
Post by: musca on 2013/11/09, 14:03:47
Dear users of Nvidia cards!

The new Version 304.116-1 of nvidia-legacy-304xx-driver for legacy Geforce 6xxx and 7xxx is only available as amd64 package, the i386 package is yet to come. So multiarch users on dist-upgrade will loose libgl1-nvidia-legacy-304xx-glx:i386 thus beaking steam and skype.

Keep your old driver with
apt-mark hold nvidia-legacy-304xx-driver

[Update:]  Now the same goes for version 319.72-1 of nvidia-driver  and libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 .

apt-mark hold nvidia-driver

Have fun with Nvidia!

greetings

Hello,

Now the same goes for version 319.72-1 of nvidia-driver  and libgl1-nvidia-glx:i386 .

The new longlive branch of the nvidia driver is version 331 and it supports newest kernels.
Version 331.20-1 has arrived in debian experimental in i386 and amd64 Versions.  /* yeah,  no multiarch problem! */

It's version number is slightly higher than towo`s  331.20-0.siduction.1  from siduction/experimental.

so you can decide: Do you want to  wait with dist-upgrade or use experimental stuff.

greetings

nvidia-driver 319.72-1 has arrived in unstable:i386
The version mismatch for nvidia-driver between amd64 and i386 is over now.

apt-mark unhold nvidia-driver

Title: solved: nvidia legacy drivers don't break multiarch
Post by: musca on 2013/11/28, 14:56:43
Dear friends of the nvidia driver!

Thanks agaida for quickly providing that fix!

Finally the missing i386 build of nvidia-legacy-304xx-drivers was done and almost immediately been pushed to testing. Now even 304.116-2 is available in debian unstable for both architectures amd64 and i386.

Have fun with multiarch and nvidia!

Cheers
