Title: Default KDM Theme uninstalled but still displayed
Post by: novalore on 2014/02/02, 16:14:32
I just installed siduction with latest kde.
It includes December KDM theme by default. I uninstalled it in SystemSettings and enabled another theme, but when I restarted X the default theme was still there. I then rebooted the laptop and December theme was still displayed; even if it is not available in system settings anymore.

I then checked my /etc/kde4/kdm/kdmrc and found:
Theme=/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/Caledonia-KDM

I also changed the cursor theme and it works as intended on the desktop, but on the kdm login screen the default cursor theme is still displayed.

I'm wondering what's wrong...

Any ideas?

Hmm - if you dont install kdm manually, any changes have no effect as we use lightdm as DM

I realized that talking on the IRC channel.

I really like to have a consistent look for my desktop, including dm, ksplash, background and icons.

I'll see what I can do with lightdm...

I only installed lightdm-kde-greeter for now (to be able to edit the look and feel inside systemsettings).

For kdm lovers (and future reference also...):

to switch to kdm just type:

dpkg-reconfigure lightdm

and choose "kdm" (if it is not available, install it).

To have the same cursor theme in kdm and kde edit the default icon theme:
vim /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme
change the content of Inherits= with the name of your favorite cursor theme (oxy-white for example).

To know cursor names just list directories in /usr/share/icons:
ls /usr/share/icons
