Post by: seasons on 2014/04/12, 11:36:41
Is anyone else having freezing issues with Iceweasel 28 and latest Flash plugin (11.2.202.350)?

Okay, so I fixed Flash video by getting my audio card working again. For some reason, it didn't like the onboard audio (maybe because I didn't have dmix set up).
Anyway....
I'm still having freezing. When it happens, it's always in the middle of a page load or I've just clicked a link. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with it, but I often see that when it freezes, it's trying to contact an ad/spyware site like google-analytics or imwx.com

Are the marketing drones somehow fighting back against Adblock? I guess I should see if it happens with safe-mode, but I consider the internet to be nearly unusable without ad blocking.

I have freezes sometimes too with iceweasel 30. Cannot say yet what might cause them.
Killing and restarting iceweasel helps for some time.

I get occasional freezes with Iceweasel 30 too and haven't worked out why.

You can use Ghostery or similar to block the tracking.
AdBlock is different, it blocks ads not tracking. I do see the occasional site that either politely asks you to disable AdBlock, or sometimes blocks content. You can disable it on a per-site basis.

I use Ghostery, Adblock, Better Privacy and Selective Cookie Delete; together they filter most of the unwanted material.

Ghostery seems to have helped a lot. Thanks.
