Title: FYI - Iceweasel 29
Post by: GoinEasy9 on 2014/05/01, 02:17:38
I installed Iceweasel 29 from experimental, and all looks good at the moment, except for the fact that Iceweasel has had a habit, since 28, of disappearing off the screen occasionally.  When started up again, it assumes the same tabs and pages that it left with, but, I haven't figured out what is causing it yet.  I haven't had the time to play with the addons, although, I've had to disable HTTPS-Everywhere occasionally, and, that's never been problematic before.

If you want the newest Iceweasel:
apt-get -t experimental install iceweasel

BTW: An updated Flash is available using:
update-flashplugin-nonfree -iv

BTW2 - While I'm at it, I've been getting this security error recently.  I thought HTTPS-Everywhere was causing it, but, it occurs, even when it's disabled.  Pic attached.  Can I remove the current security certificates and reinstall them.  I see cert8.db and cert_override.txt, but I'm not sure if removing them and then reinstalling ca-cerificates is the way to go.

Hello GoinEasy9,

Iceweasel tries to verify the SSL certificate of that website. It uses the Online Certificate Status Protocol to ask the issuer of that certificate (usually a commercial Certification Authority), if it has really created this certificate and if it is still valid. Several CAs can be involved as the whole chain of certificates is checked.

OCSP response is not yet valid (contains date in the future)

This warning lets me think your systemtime isn't exactly in sync with present time.

greetings
musca

Thanks for the response musca.

The local time on my motherboard is correct (just checked).  I don't use UFC or ntp, so, I believe it's been correct for a while.  It's the first thing I thought of when I saw the security error come up.

Unfortunately, I think it has something to do with HTTPS-Everywhere.  When I get more time, I'm going to look into it a little further.  Disabling the extension helps, but I still get the security error, just less frequently.  When using openSUSE, I don't get the security error, but I still, like with siduction and Iceweasel, have to diasable HTTPS-Everywhere to use the translator in the siduction forum.  These problems only started happening a few weeks ago, and, it's not consistant, so, it's a bit puzzling.  I'm hoping that there isn't a rogue certificate lurking.  That's why I was hoping to wipe the certificates and reinstall them.

Thanks again.
