Will it be possible to "cross-grade" an existing LXDE installation?
Zitat von: diblWill it be possible to "cross-grade" an existing LXDE installation?
If it were me, I would start from scratch, but, that is only me. I think it would be wise.
Maybe I will. I have a netbook Desperado LXDE that is working perfectly. I kinda hate to mess with it, but I know LXDE is history, so I guess I will have to make a plan for it. :)
You have really done a good job. The installation of LxQt works without any problem, the first test of the LxQt desktop into a virtual machine (KVM) was successful. All in all a very positive impression of the newly created desktop interface.
To have a first look, you might look at the pictures in the review I have linked to by switching to reviews on top of the page. Review itself is in DE :(

Thanks guys -- nice job!
Installed in VirtualBox. Prelim testing shows no obvious problems. I've not needed to install anything from 2013.2 release, so was a bit suprised to see the latest installer requires a minimum of swap, /root and /home. I wonder if there's any way to still install in swap and / only?
Back to LXQT. It's a very promising distro, hopefully we will see a little more unification in the settings in the future.
My LXQT desktop:

Thanks to the devs.
the installer don't require minimum values - type in 0B
Looking at the wallpaper, I was thinking, shouldn't it be titled "Drink it Black"?
look at the moleculare structucture - coffeine pure, without milk and sugar - just black :D

Just to say : congratulations. You are the first, I guess...
Have been working / playing with this lxqt-dev-release since it came out. It was
fun! Did a poor man's install on a stick. No serious problems till now. Am aware this is a 'Development Release' but looks to me rather as a release candidate.
Thank you.
This morning I was playing with LXQt on a VM:
-- added a startup script to ~/.config/autostart
-- added a launcher to plank
-- deleted a launcher from plank
-- installed some software including my favorite browser
-- fiddled around with multimedia items, tested videos and sound
-- used pcmanfm to browse my network and ssh into other machines
It all seems to work well.
Question: What developmental issues should a user be aware of, prior to installing on a laptop that needs to be as stable as other DEs?
nobody really know - but https://github.com/lxde/lxde-qt/issues can give some hints. 8)
from my point of view LXQt is usable - but it can be that there are some bugs, that no one have seen before, because its new.
Thank you. Another question (not answered by that git forum or Google): can I map an Alt-F2 keypress to launch the runner? I fumbled around for awhile trying to add it in the Global Actions Manager. The closest I got was this (http://pkgs.org/openmandriva-cooker/openmandriva-main-release-i586/lxqt-runner-0.7.0-1-omv2014.1.i586.rpm.html), but there is no /usr/share/lxqt/lxqt-runner/ directory on this system, so that was a dead end.
Thanks again.
ZitatLXQt arrived in siduction (http://forum.siduction.org/index.php?topic=4563.msg37756#msg37756)
will it replace razor-qt ?
In short: yes it will. Longer story: as both projects, LXDE and Razor-qt, seemed to lack manpower for further development, and some of LXDE's Gtk+Applications where ported to Qt, they decided to bundle their energies and announced mid 2013 a merged project to come [1],[2]. A first alpha version of at that time still called LXDE-Qt was published in April 2014 [3], the releaseversion 0.7 of LXQt in May [4] .
As Razor and LXDE are still active, siduction might probably release flavours of both one last time. In the long term, it seems as LXDE in its Gtk+2 version will stay for a while and Razor-qt will be given up for the sake of LXQt. And any of this might change if the developers decide :).

Thanks for the links, starting reading.
if juffed, qterminal, razor-panel replace leafpad, lxterminal, lxpanel - I'm in. ;)
will there be an i386 version also available soon?

use razor iso and upgrade
one could use the packages from extra as they are built against siduction
the packages in lxqt are built against pure sid
After adding the lxqt repos http://packages.siduction.org/lxqt/ to the list, is there a meta-package which I may use to install lxqt here on 32bit as an additional DE?
no. not now.
btw - the packages are in extra too - but build against siduction. lxqt is build against pure sid. This can make eventually a difference
I am asking out of curiosity, not really important: One may install lxqt using an ISO, but it is not possible from the repo? Did I misunderstand something?
one can install from repository - why one need a (eventually not complete or most of the time broken) meta package to do so?
