Title: digikam
Post by: mylo on 2016/07/13, 20:37:57
Hi all,

I know that digikam is fransferred to Qt5. I reinstalled the software ater long time because i like the lighttable.
However starting provides me a segmentation fault. Any hints?

Do I have to install from an other repo?

Where did you install it from ? I installed yesterday from experimental and it all works fine. Did you have any parts of Digikam 4 still installed, I don't think they are compatible.

hi titan,

thanks for responding. I installed from the "standard" sid repo.
Whether remainings from older installs disturb, i do not know respectively do not know how to fond out.

Seems that a purge and a fresh inst from experimental is the solution...

Hi Mylo,

Digikam 5 ( using qt5) is only in experimental at the moment. If you installed from sid repro it would be version using qt4 so there should not be any problems with any earlier version you may have installed. I don't know what the official advice for installing qt5 version is but there are a lot of changes with database etc. I have been using Shotwell for years but now Digikam has far fewer KDE dependencies I think ( after one days use) I may go back to Digikam as it is looking good.

@titan,
just for curiosity here I would destroy my installation.

I don't have any KDE installed but some qt5 with LXQT.although I use i3 mostly. It looks like there are clearly problems with installing Digikam 5  on a KDE system, probably why it is still in experimental. There are many major changes and the devs have also used the opportunity of moving to qt5 to make significant reductions to the KDE dependencies, it is almost a stand alone application a great development as there are lots of people who would like to use Digikam without the pile of KDE stuff.

Yesterday I was able to install digikam in my kde-installation without any problems.

In your case the qml-module packages from experimental are the problem. Maybe you can set them on hold for the installation.

# LANG=C apt-cache policy digikam
digikam:
  Installed: 4:5.0.0-1
  Candidate: 4:5.0.0-1
  Version table:
*** 4:5.0.0-1 100
          1 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian experimental/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     4:4.14.0-5+b1 500
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian testing/main amd64 Packages

# LANG=C apt-cache policy qml-module-qtquick-controls
qml-module-qtquick-controls:
  Installed: 5.6.1-2
  Candidate: 5.6.1-2
  Version table:
     5.7.0-2 1
          1 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian experimental/main amd64 Packages
*** 5.6.1-2 500
        500 http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian unstable/main amd64 Packages

I've installed digikam 5 too, but I have no sidebar on the right side. How can I insert it again?

Ok, there is a sidebar but without symbols. It only seems that there is no sidebar but if I go with the mouse over the upper area of the sidebar there are little fields and if I let the mouse on one field there will a text shown after a moment.
The next question is: How can I get back the sysmbols?

From  Bug #359108 (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=359108)  comment 23 : ... Settings/Configure Digikam/Miscellaneous/Icon theme = Breeze
Try if that helps.

Thank you der_bud,

after installing breeze-icon-theme, choose it in the settings and a restart of digikam, everything is fine.

Ok, it's really ugly but working ;-)
Did I said that I don't like flat-design?
