Title: [Solved] Migration to Debian
Post by: debsid on 2023/09/04, 09:48:42
Hello everyone,

I am a long-term reader of these forums, and a long-term user of various forms of siduction but this is my first post (edit: apparently I have posted before  :-[).

I recently migrated a spare laptop to Debian unstable. I removed every script that was connected to siduction but my kernel still shows as 'Masters of War', although it is coming from Debian. What are the mechanisms behind this? Is this Grub related?

Take a look at the file /etc/default/distro.

Thank you. I was just about to post this:

This has been driving me crazy, so I looked again. Apparently, I had looked in the wrong places, and I see now that I still have following scripts that contains the siduction version information under /etc/default:
siduction-version and /distro and in grub.d/siduction.cfg

So, do I just remove the entire file or just the line that contains "Masters of War" or just the value?

The kernel name in the Grub startup window does not come from /etc/default/distro, which in my case was also safe to remove, but from  /etc/default/grub.d/siduction.cfg where you can comment out GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR.
