If you look at the removed packages, when I did the "apt-get -f install", radiotray was on the list of stuff that was ripped out.  You always have to look carefully at the removals when you use -f install.

I actually use radiotray more than Googleearth, so if this situation doesn't change in a few days or a week, Googleearth may go back where it came from.

Off topic I know but thanks for Radio Tray. Wasn't aware of it. Very nice!

GE can easy be installed, if you package it on a 32bit system and install the resulting 32bit deb.

install bzip2:i386 file:i386 x11-utils:i386
success ...

Google-earth: no chance ;(

Aha -- good to know, thanks towo.  I tried that earlier and it did not work, but I believe you that it will work today.

Today, 17 DEC 2012, it seems to be fixed, on my 64-bit system with Nvidia graphics.

First, install googleearth-package, lsb-core, ia32-libs-gtk, and libfreeimage3.

Then, as user, run "make-googleearth-package".  As root, install the package with dpkg.

This reminds me of the old saying ... "patience is a virtue".  :)

Thanks for the confirmation dibl, I hope to try it as soon as I get some free time.  GoogleEarth was the only program I wasn't able to get running in 64 bit.  If it works for me, that will make my conversion from 32 to 64 bit complete.  \o/ Yay.
