It is the linux-headers packages, not the kernel images.  But the headers are needed to build kernel-modules or software packages.

I'm thinking this only affects 64-bit users with i386 multiarch enabled.
The headers depend on gcc-4.8, which is being held back because version 4.8.1-10 of the gcc-4.8-base:i386 multiarch package isn't available yet (it usually lags behind a day or so, at least with the mirrors I use).

It should be safe to let the linux-headers go and reinstall them, as far as we know, this only affects multiarch users, if this happens to non-multiarch users, please post
