On two of my 32 bit machines network-manager and network-manager-gnome will be removed on d-u.

Reading state information... Done
Calculating upgrade... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
  network-manager plasma-nm......
.....Do you want to continue? [Y/n] n

apt-mark hold network-manager plasma-nm

LANG=C apt-get dist-upgrade -d
Reading package lists... Done

For me it wants to remove the open connect client, which I need to vpn to work.

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  network-manager-openconnect network-manager-openconnect-gnome
The following packages have been kept back:
  lightdm-gtk-greeter ppp
The following packages will be upgraded:
  libpython3.4-minimal libpython3.4-stdlib python3.4 python3.4-minimal
4 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 2 to remove and 2 not upgraded.

Doing what ayla suggested, marking the packages to be removed on hold and then doing a d-u works, but ppp which is the culprit wanting to remove network-manager is not updated.

I am quite bored of this nework-manager problem so I descided to remove it now, but first I tried a d-u and now it seems to work.

Yes, d-u is done, network-manager was updated among everything else :)

ayla

Here on kde it still would get removed.

Maybe one just has to wait for the next mirror sync

terroreek

just did an d-u and network-manager gets updated now.

ayla

yup, ev'rythings fine here now, too.
