Hello community.
Now I know this can be a bit of a tricky one to pin down as many things can cause a system to freeze but I'll tell you what I know and maybe you can point me in the right direction.
The screen freezes apart for the cursor which I can still move and caps lock light will go on and off. It often happens when I am using iceweasel, (but also konqueror and chromium) when I am websites with lots of flash and javascript i.e facebook but I has frozen when no browsers is open, so I don't think its a javascript problem.
I can ctrl+alt+F1 and restartx but it won't respond to much else, I've heard of a similar problem with the nvidia driver but I'm not using an nvidia graphics card.
Any Ideas?

btw i'm running a Lenovo B550

When the display freezes, does the audio continue normally?

yes, just tested that, the audio continues.

So the issue is (probably) the graphics driver, or chip, or elsewhere on the motherboard if it is hardware.  The flashing keyboard light suggests a kernel panic, but I would not expect audio to continue or Ctrl-Alt-F1 to work in that case.  Let's have a look at the output of inxi -G

Hi, sorry I don't think I made it clear before, the keyboard light does not flash but the caps lock light will respond when pressed,

$ inxi -G
Graphics:  Card: Intel Mobile 4 Series Integrated Graphics Controller

thanks,

OK then I did misunderstand and there's no kernel panic.  That is why music and mouse are still working.
I have no crisp answer or fix to offer -- there are numerous open bugs in Debian and I did not read through all of them, but "freezing while scrolling" is definitely mentioned, so I would suppose you are suffering the same as those folks.

thanks for pointing me on the right direction, it does look similar to the scrolling bug reported there will check some more so I guess its probably an xserver problem.
