d-u just completed successfully, no apt-listbugs warning for util-linux and su appears to be working.

A d-u is long overdue on my kde5/plasma system, but are these removals safe?  It I don't care about the libre office style, but what about python-kde4 & libdns1100 ?

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  kpartsplugin libdns1100 libnepomuk4 libnepomukquery4a libnepomukutils4 libreoffice-style-galaxy  python-kde4
[/code[

Kan

My list of "these will be removed" went down to two items, almost there.

@Kan, I think the list of removals is related to how old a KDE installation is.  On my HP laptop (earlier post) that was originally "Indian Summer", there were 5 removals.  On a "Patience" system set up earlier this month, there were only 2 removals.

EDiT:   And don't assume all removals will eventually disappear.  Sometimes sid packages become obsolete and are removed through the d-u.

That is true. Also the package maintainers may just be slow in updating. I will wait a few more days and then do an update.

All of those were removed with my d-u last night except kpartsplugin and python-kde4, both of which are not installed at all. You should be good to go if that's all the removals.

You might be waiting forever for your 2 removals to not appear on the list. What packages are they?It may be best to do your d-u now while there are only 2 removals!  ;)

@sunrat  Thanks. I'd worked out that libdns1100 would go when dnsutils was updated, but that status of pyhton-kde4 remained a query.  Decided to d-u now and restore if necessary.

edit: D-U completed OK but util-linux pakage update is still causing issues.

Lanzi

The transition can be considered as done
Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. (Benjamin Franklin, November 11, 1755)
Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity. (Hanlons razor)

Two nights ago I updated a KDE and LXQt install with no untoward effects. The files removed were either replaced or weren't needed anymore. I think it's safe at the moment.

Edit: Thanks melmarker, good to know.
