Riders on the Storm...
but new Asus EeePc 1011cx with GMA3600 intel chipset graphic is a problem: no acceleration
I can use 1024x600 simple resolution
Any solution or drivers GMA3600 (also known cedar-view)
I know in ubuntu is possible to install but I don' t know in debian based
Regards

Out of curiosity I chased this with google and ended up here:

http://communities.intel.com/thread/33947

It's not a pretty picture, and looks bad for Intel. *

There are a couple of threads on Debian forums, but they don't indicate that a driver package was ever successfully compiled.  :(

* And as long as they have proprietary IP in the source code, Debian will never incorporate support for this GPU into the kernel.  :(

Thanks but...
Ubuntu has cedar-view (GMA3600) drivers.
Also Mint-linux (ubuntu derivate)
Also Fedora
Also Puppy
why not Siduction?
Siduction is one of the best (if no the best one) debian distros and I think this chipset, Intel GMA3600 is very very frequent in Atom cheap netbooks
I dont know but,,,really is so difficult to compile or write a driver?

It seems, that those drivers are pice of shit.
Quote
* i386 *only*, there will not be amd64 support (even in windows!)
* >= 4GB ram needs mem=4G added to the kernel command line
* If your bios exposes a phantom LVDS device (and many do), update your bios to get the fix or add video=LVDS-1:d to the kernel command line
* Unity3D sessions do not work. GL support in general is very sketchy
Maybe i could enable gma500 in the kernel, but it would not help many, since there is no realy ddx for those crappy chipset.

Shit or not shit....
How can I use your explanation: "Maybe i could enable gma500 in the kernel"
I know it is not the best solution but...

As far as I know, no distro has acceleration, it uses fbdev  or  vesa

By the way, ubuntu is debian based

This is at the Arch wiki

/etc/X11/xorg.conf:

Section "Device"
  Identifier             "Intel GMA3600"
  Driver                 "fbdev"

My research on the Intel GMA3600 is that not to many happy campers in the linux world

over at mint forums

Quote from: "jtouso"Hi,
Excellent new Linux Mint 14.1, Mate or Cinnamon.
Also, LMDE 201303
Now the problem: always in live mode, Mint 14.1 cannot start and a little window appears with explanation about xorg.conf or similar (fatal error: non screen find) and s I understand, problems with Intel GMA 3600 graphic chipset.
With LMDE 201303, also in live mode, the screen is oen but in an uggly 800x600 resolution.Impossible to up to 1024x600
Same notebook, same GMA 3600
Also same 800x600 with LinuxLite (Ubuntu based distro)
In Xubuntu 13 beta (Ubuntu derivate), no problems and the resolution is 1024x600
Also no problems with Kanotix, Knoppix, Siduction or SnowLinux (debian distros) the resolution is 1024x600
Any idea?
Solutions?

Our kernel has

CONFIG_DRM_GMA500=m
CONFIG_DRM_GMA600=y
CONFIG_DRM_GMA3600=y

so it's all there, what is possible.
You can't use propritary drivers, because they do not compile anymore on modern kernels and xservers.

So...
Which netbook you recomended?
No more than 220 euros.
No more than 12" screen
No so weight
Nvidia graphic chipset?
Which model?

Actually about any Intel GPU EXCEPT that ^&$%#* GMA3600 will be fine. You may or may not find an Nvidia GPU in a netbook, if you do it should work well also.

Don't forget the GMA500 which was pretty bad itself, but the GMA3600 is worse, I am not a fanboy of intel, in fact, my last intel cpu was a 166mhz overclocked to 200mhz. (That's a whole different story)

I would rather have a tablet than a notebook/netbook especially nowadays (JMO)

I guess I got lucky a couple years ago, with a little Toshiba NB205 netbook.  It has an Intel Mobile 945GSE, and has been running perfectly for years.

My quick review on newegg.com does not show many "ultrabooks" or netbooks in the OPs price range, unfortunately.
