KDE Device notifier kills audio

Everytime I insert a CD/DVD or plug an usb storage device and the device notifier pops up all audio stops. No sound anymore. I can reproduce it with amarok, vlc & flashplayer plugin. The only way to get audio back is to reboot or systemctl isosolate rescue.target and ctrl-d. journalctl -f shows nothing. I have no idea how to solve this annoying bahavior.

It drives me mad. Everytime I insert a removable media and the device notifier pops up, all audio output stops. I still have no idea how to fix it.

My test:

I start amarok with

Now I insert a removalbe media. In this case a usb memorystick. The kde device notifier pops up and amarok says:

Now audio output stops while amarok is still streaming (I can see the popups from the next music title). journalctl -fb says:

With kmix and alsamixer I checked if audio gets muted. But all channels are active.

To get audio back I have to stop and start the stream in amarok. Amarok is an example here. All programs which deal with audio are affected. What I changed from my last post is that I switched from gstreamer to vlc in the phonon backend. It is really frustrating. I need your help.

P.S. Is it Mr. Poetterings revenge that I don't use his pulseaudio?

Just an update on this issue.

I found another way to mute audio. While listing to local music I established a vpn-connection with network manager. KDE notifier pops with the message that the connection is successful established. Then KDE pops up with the message that my internal sound-hardware has changed (how? it's soldered to the mainboard) an the player (in this case vlc) still plays with no sound. To get sound back I had to close and restart vlc. It's so annoying.

Then KDE pops up with the message that my internal sound-hardware has changed (how? it's soldered to the mainboard)  ...

Yes, I see this goofy behavior once in awhile, after I have been fiddling with phonon or pulseaudio usually, or plugging in and removing headphones, or something like that.  Once in a great while it is so borked I have to reboot, but usually killing off the X session and restarting will solve it, or even going into KDE settings/multimedia and resetting it.  In general I find today's Linux audio much more friendly than when I started with Linux 8 years ago, but once in awhile there is still some strange, unexpected loss of audio.

May or may not be related, I get this dialog every time I plug in an external device -

I click "Yes" and sound still works. It's just annoying rather than a major problem.
Audiophile 2496 has 10 Multi outputs listed in alsamixer, all of which have no effect on output which is actually DAC or HW1.
I use the Audiophile 2496 exclusively for sound, although the system has onboard and video card HDMI soundcards as well.

Now progress on this issue. In the moment the device notifier pops up I lost my audio output. Every player still plays but I can't hear anything. Sometimes it helped to restart the playersoftware (or the browser if the flashplayer gets affected). At the moment I have to relogin to my KDE-Session I get audio back till I plug in a new USB-device or insert a new optical media. I have no clue why. <rant>It's really p!ssing me off.</rant>

I have this prolem for ages, whenever i delete something in Krusader. SO my workaroud was to deactivate all systemsounds...

brutal, but effective ;-)

Just an update: With Plasma 5 the same behavior: Device pops up -> audio gets muted. Unmute only after restart the player application.
